There's No Such Thing As Bad Weather with Linda McGurk | Episode 33

Linda McGurk is the author of the best-selling book "There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom's Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids (from Friluftsliv to Hygge)" [https://www.amazon.com/Theres-Such-Thing-Bad-Weather/dp/150114362X].  This book has changed my life in so many ways, opening my eyes to the value of spending time in nature, regardless of the weather.  As a child, I spent all day every day outside, even in the winters growing up in Western New York.  As an adult, I realized I lost that connection with nature, and this book was one of the main catalysts to me reconnecting with the outdoors again, and has transformed my teaching career and family life.   Linda and I focus in on several topics from her book including: * Free range parenting * Social trust * The fear of falling kids falling behind in academics and athletics * Friluftsliv (open air life) * Nature and the immune system Enjoy the episode! episode Intentionally Unplugged with Denise Roland | Episode 31 artwork
Intentionally Unplugged with Denise Roland | Episode 31

This week's episode is with the founder of Intentionally Unplugged, aimed at equipping and empowering families to have healthy boundaries with technology.  Denise is a mom of 3 and a teacher, so she sees first hand the impact technology and screens has on her and her kids' lives.  She gives us some suggestions on how to navigate screen time with ourselves and with our kids, especially during these times when it seems like we are all required to be in front of a computer. This interview really hits home with me because I struggle to separate with my phone and use it as a crutch whenever I'm bored, almost like a reflex.  I try to make a conscious habit of putting it away when I get home from work, but there always seems to be an excuse to take it back out.  Just know that you're not alone out there, and the tips from this episode can be beneficial to all of us! Also, this will be my last episode as I take a break for a little while to "intentionally unplug".  Our second child was just born this week, so I want to take some time off of interviewing and editing and enjoy her and have some fun with my family! I hope you enjoy the episode and please don't forget to leave a review, subscribe, and/or follow to help spread the mission of MOVRS!  Thank you! https://www.intentionallyunplugged.com/ [https://www.intentionallyunplugged.com/] @intentionallyunplugged [https://www.instagram.com/intentionallyunplugged/] "Please, Look up at Me" Book [https://www.intentionallyunplugged.com/shop-products/please-look-up-at-me-book] http://www.movrs.org [http://www.movrs.org] https://www.instagram.com/movrskids/ [https://www.instagram.com/movrskids/] Support the show [https://www.buymeacoffee.com/movrs]

All Kids Bike with Matt Seebaum | Episode 29

Matt Seebaum is the Executive Director of the Strider Education Foundation, the provider for All Kids Bike.  Their mission is to get every Kindergartener in the country to learn how to ride a bike in their PE class.  It seems crazy, but over the past 5-10 years, far less kids are out riding their bikes than ever before.  Matt and I talk about how biking for us was like our ticket to life when we were kids; it's how we got everywhere and spent most of our time.  There are so many valuable skills kids can develop when they go through the process of learning how to ride a bike, and it could turn into a life-long passion for them. All Kids Bike provides schools with a class-pack of Strider balance bikes, along with helmets, pedals if/when needed, and a curriculum to follow.  The more money your/our community raises, the more schools can be provided with this amazing resource.  The school I currently teach at is going through the fundraising process right now with All Kids Bike, and we are pumped to get our kids started later this year! Please consider donating to this amazing organization, or get the process started to get bikes in your school today!  Follow the links below for more information: https://allkidsbike.org/ [https://allkidsbike.org/] @allkidsbike [https://www.instagram.com/allkidsbike/] I hope you enjoy the show and don't forget to subscribe/share/follow!  Thank you for taking your time out of your day to listen!  http://www.movrs.org [http://www.movrs.org] @movrs.podcast [https://www.instagram.com/movrs.podcast/] Support the show [https://www.buymeacoffee.com/movrs]
