Dare to Fail

In this episode of The Never Too Far Podcast, I share more of my personal story and what led me to start The Never Too Far Project and launch the blog and podcast. I also share how I overcame my fear of failure and the steps I take to continue on my path to spiritual and mental health. I hope this encourages you to dare to dream and dare to fail in your own lives. The following are the steps and practices I put to use in my everyday life to keep myself driven and focused on accomplishing my dreams and reaching my goals. [1] Write down what is it that you want to achieve (i.e. your goal, dream or long term vision). Then write down your ‘why‘. Your ‘why‘ is what fuels your drive and keeps you focused on the reasons you are chasing those beautiful dreams of yours. Writing down why you want to accomplish something gives heart to your goal, dream or vision. This helps remind you of why you even started and the reason to keep going. [2] Visualize what could go wrong and write it down. On the same page, write down everything that could go right. Always have faith! Faith is the antidote to fear. Faith is a hope in the things yet to come. Don’t allow your fear of failure to snuff out your hope. [3] Honor your emotions. Don’t run from feeling afraid. Fear is a relentless predator, it won’t stop coming after you until you stare it in the face and acknowledge it existence in your situation. Don’t be afraid to be afraid. Boldly face what you are feeling so that you can overcome. [4] Understand that fear is a demonic spirit. You have to decide to what extent it is welcome in your life. We have to power through the Holy Spirit to cast out the spirit of fear. Tell that thing to get out of your house. Also, read through “Who’s Living in Your House?”, you can get a better understand of how we welcome negative, toxic stuff into our living house (our minds, spirit, and heart). [5] Open your heart and mind to hear the plans God has your life. “‘For I know the plans I have for you’ declared the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'” Your failures don’t determine the success you will have in the future. Your past mistakes do not determine who you are. Our mistakes in our past can ask as a blindfold, keeping us from seeing the person we can become. Forgive yourself, let go and let God. He has you, and he isn’t going to guide to a place of harm. There is always hope, there is a beautiful, bright future ahead of you. [6] Bring people in on your goal, dream, or vision. Create a tribe of support around yourself. But be wise in who you bring into that tribe! Don’t tell people who are only going to plant a seed of doubt and cause your ‘why‘ to crumble. Have people around you who are going to dream with you–who will have hope in the things yet to come. [7] Learn to speak positively with yourself. Be your own friend! Don’t let self-hate and self-critical thinking to poison your heart and ultimately keep you from your dreams being realized. You are with yourself all of the time, learning a positive narrative within yourself is healing, transformative, and will help you grow in your confidence. [8] Develop a growth mindset. Be someone who doesn’t feel failure is the end of the road, but the beginning. You have the choice of how much you’re going to take away from a failed situation. Choose to look for that gold in every thing that doesn’t work out the way you thought it ought to. Read
