My World's On Fire, How 'Bout Yours? ("Shrek")

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me. And they were correct. Honestly a great call. We’re battered but not broken after 25(!!!!!) mainline episodes of this “limited series” and have finally arrived at the halfway mark, and it’s a big boy — SHREK is on deck!!!!!! Does this swampy romp even need an introduction? SHREK won the first EVER Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film and spawned a full-fledged franchise with spin-offs and everything. It’s a middle finger to Disney that somehow has as much heart as anything produced by the Mouse House (if not more). It’s probably singlehandedly responsible for keeping Smashmouth relevant forever. Based on Stefanie Zweig's autobiographical novel, the film tells the story of a Jewish family fleeing Nazi Germany to start a new life on a remote farm in Kenya. We dive into the film’s exploration of cultural displacement, the nuanced portrayal of familial relationships through the lens of a young girl approaching adolescence and discuss what it “home” really means.
