After the fine dining, Noble bids you goodnight, slipping something into your palm as he kisses your hand. As soon as you are safely in the car being driven home, you check to find a note that displays a time, a date, and states "dress casual". The date arrives. The time comes. Instead of the luxury car you are used to, a nondescript white van pulls up. You probably wouldn't have even paid attention to it had Noble not pulled open the side door and beckoned you in. Once inside, you are once again blindfolded as the van pulls off. The drive takes somewhere close to an hour. Idle chatter passes between Noble, the driver, and a stranger who was sitting up front. The whole thing would feel disconcerting were it not for Noble's cool shoulder pressed against yours in the van seats. The vehicle parks up. It has been weeks since the townsfolk captured the creature. Since then, you yourself have been watched closely. Most of the community ignores you. Occasionally, you get pitying looks, "the person entranced by the devil", "the Creature's obsession", or other such excuses that the villagers create to deceive themselves. The more cheerful of the town offer a disingenuous congratulations for luring in the monster of the mountains, the hero that no one expected. Each reaction cuts deep, for you do not know what became of the creature, your friend. Day after day, you would ask to see "the prisoner", and every time you would be refused. The days pass slowly since you were interrogated by "The Council". Nobel hasn't been in touch since then, and as much as that isn't unusual, the importance of that interview weighs on your shoulders. Was this just Lucas being Lucas, or was he instructed that you were not to be contacted again? Were you now in danger? He had shared much with you already. Information that you are pretty sure that you shouldn't have been privy to. The days drag slowly, and the nights are filled with sleepless nights as the paranoia and the fear creeps in. You try to remind yourself that time is seen differently by immortal creatures. And you would like to think that Lucas would at least let you know if you were no longer permitted to know any more, but the more you think, the more you realise that there is much about your new companion that is still very much a stranger to you. After about a month, the fear has quietened and you do your best to try and settle into the not knowing. Then, you receive a text from Lucas requesting your presence in 3 days, Requesting you wear something fancy, and saying that he will send a car for you. The evening comes around.
