From Pre-Diabetic to Peloton: August’s Journey of Health and Transformation
EP124: From Pre-Diabetic to Peloton: August’s Journey of Health and Transformation In this episode, I’m thrilled to welcome August, a Weight Watchers success story and an inspiring figure in the weight loss community. August shares his personal journey from being diagnosed as pre-diabetic at 47, weighing over 400 pounds, to transforming his life through consistency, accountability, and a commitment to health. We dive into how his life as a nightclub DJ, late-night eating, and sedentary habits contributed to his weight gain, and how hitting that pre-diabetic diagnosis became the wake-up call he needed. August talks about joining Weight Watchers with his supportive wife and how the structured plan, coupled with a community of like-minded men, helped him find success and stay motivated. Throughout the episode, August highlights the importance of small, sustainable steps, leaning on a strong support system, and celebrating non-scale victories along the way. From walking his dog to riding his Peloton five times a week, August’s journey is proof that it's never too late to make a positive change. Show Highlights: * Start slow: August stresses the importance of beginning with small steps and building healthy habits over time. * Find your community: Support from his wife and the "WW bro's" group played a crucial role in August's success. * Non-scale victories matter: Fitting into smaller clothes and being able to walk longer distances became powerful motivators. * Plan for the long term: August encourages focusing on a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix or hitting a goal weight. * Keep photos of your progress: A great tip from August—taking progress photos helps you visualize and appreciate how far you’ve come, even when the scale isn’t moving. episode How to stop the scales ruining your weight loss journey artwork
How to stop the scales ruining your weight loss journey
EP123: Why the scales are ruining your weight loss journey In this solo episode, I dive into a topic that I know many of you struggle with: how the number on the scale can impact your emotions, self-worth, and overall success. I’ve been there myself, and I want to help you understand that the scale is just one data point in your journey toward health and well-being. I’ll share my own experiences and lessons from coaching to show you how you can shift your mindset around weighing yourself. The truth is, success is about building consistent habits—like staying active, maintaining good nutrition, and taking care of your mental health—rather than obsessing over the number you see on the scale. I talk about how I’ve learned to view the scale as “just data,” which has helped me (and my clients) stop letting the ups and downs of daily or weekly weigh-ins ruin progress. I’ll explain how factors like glycogen and water retention can impact your weight, and why that number doesn’t always reflect fat loss or the success of your efforts. In this episode, I also challenge you to focus on other measures of success—like how your clothes fit, how much energy you have, and the non-scale victories that really matter when creating a healthy lifestyle. I share practical strategies to help you change your relationship with the scale and use it as a tool, rather than a source of frustration. Key Takeaways: * The scale does not define your success. Your habits, consistency, and behaviors do. * Weight fluctuations are often due to factors like glycogen and water retention, not just fat gain or loss. * Viewing the scale as “just data” can help you stay emotionally grounded and focus on what really matters. * Celebrate non-scale victories like better-fitting clothes, increased energy, and healthier habits. * Focus on building a sustainable lifestyle by creating small, consistent actions over time. I invite you to take a step toward changing your mindset by scheduling a free coaching session with me. Let’s work on focusing on small habit changes and celebrating non-scale victories so you can achieve your long-term weight loss and health goals. episode Amy Edwards: Overcoming Mental Health Struggles and Losing 10 Stone in 12 Months artwork
Amy Edwards: Overcoming Mental Health Struggles and Losing 10 Stone in 12 Months
Amy Edwards: Overcoming Mental Health Struggles and Losing 10 Stone in 12 Months Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of mental health struggles, including suicide attempts, that some listeners may find difficult. Please take care while listening, and seek support if needed. Episode Summary: In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Amy Edwards, a remarkable woman from Scarborough who has achieved something truly inspiring. Amy has lost over 10 stone (140 lbs) in under 12 months, all while juggling the challenges of being a mother of four young children and overcoming serious mental health struggles. We dive deep into her journey, discussing how she transformed her life with a calorie deficit, running, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Her story is a powerful reminder that no matter where you start, change is possible. Amy shared her background, explaining how she and her family moved from Surrey to Scarborough in 2020. As a mother of four kids under three, she talked about how the demands of raising young children impacted her health, both mentally and physically. She bravely opened up about her lifelong struggle with OCD, disordered eating, and multiple suicide attempts. Amy explained how these challenges shaped her relationship with food, starting in her teenage years and continuing into adulthood, as she battled both mental health issues and weight gain. The turning point for Amy came when she faced the reality of her weight gain—a bridesmaid dress that didn’t fit and photos from a wedding that shocked her into realising it was time for a change. She decided to take control of her health, not only for herself but for her children, who were her biggest motivation. Amy lost 10 stone by committing to a calorie deficit and using her Fitbit to track her activity and food intake. She also started the Couch to 5k program, which gradually built up her fitness, despite the challenges of balancing motherhood with the demands of a healthier lifestyle. Amy also shared her experience with Slimming World and why it didn’t work for her. While she acknowledges that it helps many people, she found that the restrictive nature of the diet negatively impacted her mental health, leading her to realise that a more balanced, sustainable approach was necessary for her well-being. During our conversation, Amy emphasised the importance of mental health in any transformation. She explained that improving her mindset and working on her mental health were crucial steps in her journey toward losing weight and feeling better about herself. Since her weight loss, Amy has achieved incredible things. She ran the London Marathon and is now training for an Ironman event. Her story is a testament to the power of determination and self-belief. It shows that when you commit to yourself and refuse to give up, you can achieve extraordinary results. Self-love, Lego and living well - Paige's weight loss journey
EP121: Paige’s Journey: Self-love, Lego and living well In this episode, I chat with Paige, a 30-year-old from Gatwick, about her inspiring weight loss journey. Over the past two and a half years, Paige has transformed her approach to health, focusing on long-term well-being rather than just appearance. We explore how she shifted her mindset, overcame struggles from her younger years, and found a balance between fitness and nutrition that works for her. Paige shares how she dealt with weight issues from childhood and how turning 30 motivated her to take control of her health. She opens up about the mental shift that led her to focus on feeling better, both physically and mentally, rather than simply losing weight for looks. A key turning point for her was being unable to participate in an activity due to weight restrictions, which spurred her commitment to change. Paige explains her workout routine, which includes weight training and Zumba, and how finding exercise she enjoys has been essential to her success. She also credits intermittent fasting (18-6) for helping her shed 63 pounds in four months. Paige talks about the importance of rewarding herself for each milestone with non-food treats, such as spa days and small gifts, to keep herself motivated. Paige’s story highlights the power of a mindset shift and the importance of finding exercise and nutrition strategies that work long-term. Her success is driven by focusing on health and well-being, and celebrating progress with rewards that support her goals.
