All Of It with Alison Stewart
The 1950 World Cup in Brazil is famous in the history of United States soccer. The U.S. Men's National team, made up of immigrants and amateurs, stunned the world by defeating England 1-0. Haitian-American author Dimitry Elias Léger has written a new novel, Death of the Soccer God [https://bookshop.org/p/books/death-of-the-soccer-god-a-novel-dimitry-elias-l-ger/8e76a1a2a5e36fe4], in part inspired by the events of 1950. The book is centered around sports-obsessed protagonist Gilbert Chevalier, born into Port-au-Prince high society who moves to the streets of Harlem and is spotted by national recruiters. Dimitry Elias Léger discusses his book and shares thoughts on the 2026 World Cup. Cover art courtesy of MCD Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
