There were crashes galore and mind-numbing speeds – what a weekend we had in rallying! In the Queensland sunshine, Scott Pedder took his first Australian Rally Championship victory in 10 years, while his co-driver, Glenn Macneall, broke a startling drought of his own. On this week's Special Stage Rally Podcast, we discuss what was a horror weekend for Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia, with all three of their GR Yaris' going off the road with varying degrees of seriousness. The pace of this year's ARC has risen remarkably and we dissect what this means for the remainder of the series, which still has three rounds to run! Over in Europe, Rally Poland saw a thrilling battle for victory between the Toyotas of Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans, and the Hyundai of Andreas Mikkelsen. There was also the stunning Rally1 debut of Latvian young gun, Martins Sesks. The action continues this week as we preview the fast and yumpy Rally Estonia, the fourth round of the European Rally Championship. While you may be suffering from the winter blues, we've got all the rally action covered on another bumper episode of the Special Stage Rally Podcast. On this episode of the Brad Jones Racing Run Down, driver of the #96 Macauley Jones and BJR general manager Chris Westwood look back at the team’s run in the Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley, chat about the engine problems that hit some of the Chevrolet runners in Darwin and how the fix is delaying the team’s Townsville preparations, continuing issues with the new Full Course Yellow procedure, and why a couple of (other teams’) cars broke down during the Track to Town parade in Darwin. They’ve made it through the tough Canberra roads and the ball-bearing West Australian gravel, but the challenge of Queensland just might top them both for Australian Rally Championship competitors this weekend. Joining the RallySport Magazine team for this week’s preview is former Subaru factory driver and ARC TV man, Dean Herridge, who gives his unique insight into the state of play in the championship. Herridge joins Luke and Peter Whitten to discuss the event that’s growing in stature after its return to the series in 2021. The tricky and often rough roads around Gympie will be the challenge, and that’s all after a huge 'Wheels on Mary' street party on Friday night in front of thousands. Also briefly discussed is the Nissan Nightmoves and Southern Lights events and Paraguay’s introduction into the World Rally Championship. Co-drivers are often the forgotten parts of a rally team, but on this week's Special Stage Rally Podcast we get up close and personal with two of the best. Five-time Australian Rally Champion, Coral Taylor, joins us to chat about riding with Harry and Neal Bates and gives some valuable advice on what it takes to get to the top. We also head to Finland to talk to Dan Brkic, the man guiding Taylor Gill to success in the Junior World Rally Championship. To open the podcast, though, we preview this weekend's Nissan Nightmoves and Southern Lights rallies, and provide an update on Troy Dowel's ongoing recovery from a recent bone marrow transplant. Sit back, relax and enjoy the latest edition of RallySport Magazine's Special Stage Rally Podcast.
