Lisää No, But Really, What Do You Do?

Ever wonder what your coworker down the hall actually does all day? Any idea what your best friend's job is? Does your family know what you do? Most of the time, we have no idea what other people’s jobs really are. And whether we’ve known them so long that it’s too late to ask, or we just don’t want to look like we don’t know what they’re talking about, we often never find out. Well, now I'm asking, "no, but really, what do you do?"

Nicole Seagriff: Nurse Practitioner, Onsite Medical Director, NP Residency Program Clinical Director

No, but really, what do you do as a Nurse Practitioner (NP)…and an Onsite Medical Director…and a NP Residency Program Clinical Director? You stay very, very busy. Nicole has an amazing career path that includes roles she knew early on that she wanted to pursue along with some that she took on when she saw gaps that needed to be filled and opportunities to help make a difference in healthcare communities and patient care. Moving from registered nurse early in her career to nurse practitioner, she was able to start helping patients in a primary care role, which was especially meaningful to her from her own experiences. Later she completed additional training and degrees that furthered her medical education while sharpening her leadership skills, and soon took on roles managing clinical operations and programs at the Community Health Center, Inc., where she practiced.  We talk about the dual nature of her roles in both practice and policy, and how each perspective helps inform the other. She touches on the joys of working in family practice where you can see your patients grow up and treat multiple generations, to the challenges faced by the entire medical community over the past few years in particular. Throughout our conversation, her compassion and care for serving the needs of the communities she works in is ever present. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Nicole is a passionate advocate for breast cancer research, fundraising and support for patients and survivors. She is President of The Pink Agenda [https://www.thepinkagenda.org/], a nonprofit organization committed to raising money for breast cancer research and care, as well as awareness of the disease among young professionals. Betsy Kagen: Editor, Film & Television

No, but really, what do you do as an editor for movies, tv shows and documentaries? Well, as it turns out, it depends… Betsy shares her experiences on a range of projects and how each one is a little bit different. She walks us through her day depending on what type of project she’s on, what stage of filming they’re in, or when she was brought in to work on the project. As an editor, she plays a role in creative decision-making that can be a huge asset throughout the filming process to ensure all the necessary scenes and visuals are captured. But her most crucial role is helping a director bring their vision to life, and that relationship and trust-building between editor and director is a driving force in the success of her work. She also talks about the balance between individual work involved in her job and the collaboration with others on set or after filming – from the director to producers to writers to actors to documentary subjects - to bring out the best story possible. Meaghan Gruppo: Manager, Global Intelligence

No, but really, what do you do as an intelligence analyst? What you’ve seen in the movies or on TV doesn’t quite tell the real story. And storytelling is exactly what Meaghan does best. Starting her career in a training program with the federal government right out of college, she learned how to approach intelligence gathering so that she can sift through all the noise and conflicting information to craft a story that is unbiased and factual when answering questions that drive security, business, and other important decisions.  From public sector roles at the CIA and NYPD to a private company like Google, these fundamental skills stay the same, but a lot else has changed. Hear from Meaghan about how she approaches her craft, how intelligence gathering and its delivery have evolved with technology over the years, the rise of generative AI and how it can help analysts sort and summarize information, but why she believes there will always be value in human experts ultimately driving analysis and crafting the right stories with the data. Plus, we discuss new skills she and her team are developing to find creative solutions to problems, like graphic design, data analysis, public speaking, video & podcast production.  For more insights from Meaghan about the intelligence analysis business, follow her at The Intel Desk [https://theinteldesk.substack.com/].  Visit the show website [https://www.podpage.com/no-but-really-what-do-you-do/]or follow on Instagram @nobutreallypod [https://www.instagram.com/nobutreallypod/]
