episode What It Means To Be A Modern Bloke with Sean Coffin artwork
What It Means To Be A Modern Bloke with Sean Coffin

When I asked the Take 10 For Men audience who they’d like to hear from, there was one man who stood out by far. Sean Coffin, AKA, The Modern Bloke. Sean comes from a marketing background, so he understands that the ‘brand’ of what it means to be a man - is in trouble. He’s on a mission to change that. Sean embodies his values around healthy masculinity. He celebrates involved fathers, advocates for equal parental leave and is all about men being real about how they feel. Sean and I dive deep into what it means to be a ‘modern bloke’ and how he manages his mental health. Follow Sean at @themodernbloke and visit their website www.themodernbloke.com.au. Quitting Corporate and Following Your Dream with Mark Curry

Ever thought about quitting your safe day job and going out on your own to chase your dream? Mark Curry did just that. He was living the corporate dream, working in a top tier law firm, making good money. But while success looked good on paper, it didn't feel so good. Around him, colleagues were burning out, working 12-14 hour days, trapped in a system that didn't suit them but they didn't feel they could leave. He didn't want to live like that. So with some cash saved up, he quit his job to pursue his dream - making beverages that supported positive mental health. After many years, countless challenges, and a few moments when he genuinely wondered if he could keep going, Mark is the Founder and CEO of Savvy Beverages. This is his story. Making Waves For Mental Health with Lachie Bruce

25-year-old Lachie Bruce is a humble, hard-working physio from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. He doesn’t like to make a fuss and goes about his business quietly. But in late 2021, Lachie made waves in a big way. He swam a crazy 25km from Palm Beach to Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in under 6 hours. He took the challenge to raise funds for Gotcha4Life, a charity close to his - and his family’s - hearts. Lachie raised over $20,000 and his efforts sparked important conversations not just within his own friendship circle, but in the Northern Beaches community. There’s a lot we can learn from the local legends who work, live and breathe beside us. Lachie is one of those people. Surviving Cancer + A Life-Changing Accident with Jake O'Brien

Please note: This conversation touches on themes of suicide. If you, or anyone you know needs support, help is always available. You can contact Lifeline any time on 13 11 14. At 28, Jake O'Brien's life was going pretty well. He was building his reputation as a personal trainer, had recently met a beautiful girl, and lived in a pretty picturesque part of Sydney near the ocean. But a freak accident flipped Jake's life on its head. He was involved in a serious motorbike accident when he was hit in a bus lane by a four-wheel drive. His injuries were severe, including a collapsed lung and a broken neck. He was very, very lucky to escape with his life. To repair the damage, Jake was confined to a neck brace. His recovery was long and arduous but after many months of hard work, he finally felt things were improving. But life wasn't done testing him... Just weeks after coming out of his neck brace, Jake was diagnosed with throat cancer which needed radiation. Understandably, both of these intense and terrifying life experiences took their toll on Jake's mental health. He was lacking purpose, direction and a desire to live. But opening up with his followers on social media, took an immense weight off his shoulders. He found power in his resilience, his recovery, and his ability to connect with thousands of people online. Jake opens up about the accident, his cancer diagnosis, and how he emerged from rock bottom as a stronger man.
