TNBT004 – New MacBook Pro’s, Pixel 6 Release and Facebook Rename To Meta

Hey everyone, this is Sanjeev from Techkle. Welcome to this week’s episode of TNBT where we will cover the latest Tech news and updates. TNBT EPISODE SUMMARY Windows 11 and MacBook Pro Release with Other Tech News [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/windows-11-release-and-macbook-pro-release-tech-news-1024x576.jpg]Usually, this quarter is remarkably busy for the companies as they try to launch final product lines of the year. Last month was no different with Apple, Google, Facebook producing big announcements. We will talk about all those new releases in this month episode of TNBT. Last month was only the start with the launch of iPhone 13 and new iPhone 13 Accessories [https://techkle.com/best-accessories-for-iphone-13/]. This month we not only have the new product announcement, but we also have some software releases including Windows 11 and macOS Monterey which brings many new features to the latest devices. APPLE NEW MACBOOK PRO WITH M1 PRO AND M1 MAX So, let’s start with one of the biggest releases of the year. After a wait for almost a year for the MacBook Pro’s with M1 chip, Apple finally unveiled them in the October event. They have produced two different chips in addition to already released M1 chip – M1 Pro and M1 Max. Along with the two new chips, we now have new MacBook 14-inch and MacBook 16-inch models which utilizes those new chips. Both machines configuration starts with M1 Pro chip and can be customized to use M1 Max at the higher end models. Both chips are powerful with the System-on-a-Chip (SOC) architecture similar to M1 chip and build with industry leading 5-nanometer process. They introduce this architecture first time to the pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max Chip. M1 PRO AND M1 MAX SPECIFICATIONS One of the best parts of moving to new architecture is faster memory access which means CPU and GPU can access the same memory. This will remove the need to duplicate the data when shifting process between CPU and GPU. It will result in faster process execution and overall performance improvement of the machine. Another important aspect which we have seen from the M1 chip is increased battery life. Even with increased CPU performance the overall consumption of power is much less. Apple has provided a chart which talks about CPU performance versus raw power uses. You can look at the chart in the show notes to understand the performance output. [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/apple-m1-pro-m1-max-cpu-performance.jpg]M1 Pro is available with up to 32GB integrated memory while M1 Max can be configured up to 64GB of unified memory. Since the unified memory will be shared between CPU and GPU, it can even compete with the graphics performance of external GPU cards. [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/apple-m1-max-gpu-performance-comparision.jpg]You can check the GPU performance chart in the show notes. RIP TOUCH BAR One of the major changes in the MacBook Pro design is missing Touch Bar. Apple has launched the Touch Bar in 2016 with MacBook Pro and after being available for almost 5 years it has decided to sunset this feature. Personally, I am using MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 model and very rarely I have used the Touch Bar available on the MacBook. So, if I have not noticed the available feature so much, I don’t think I am going to miss it much. It has some nice use cases but for most part you need to keep an eye on the Touch Bar to keep checking the changing suggestions. Most of the pro users like me use keyboard to type while keeping the eyes on the screen, which means I miss many of the suggestions unless, I am aware that there will be a setting on the Touch Bar which I am looking for. This means most of the time spelling suggestions are of no use as I must keep an eye on the Touch Bar. Spelling suggestion on the screen while typing is much more useful since they can be applied easily with Tab or Enter key. Apple also realized that Touch Bar is not serving much of the purpose while increasing the cost of the MacBook due to touch screen and additional components. So, with this year MacBook Pro models, they have removed the Touch Bar. PRORES MEDIA ENGINE The new chips also bring ProRes media engine to Pro machines which means editing video on the machines will be a breeze. The export video options, and multi-stream editing will become easier with the help of these new chips. Even between M1 Pro and M1 Max, M1 Max delivers twice the performance for video encoding. That doesn’t mean M1 Pro is a slouch either, it offers a superior performance over other laptop processors. Apple has brought back most of the Ports which was removed from MacBook’s for last few years. So, you will get HDMI port, SD card reader and thunderbolt ports along with MagSafe charger. Though this year MacBook’s models are bit thicker but most of the sleeves for MacBook [https://techkle.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-sleeves/] should work fine. The higher power of GPU matched with reduce battery consumption means you can work more on these machines while keeping the machine on the juice. The new MacBook’s are a powerhouse compared to last generation of Intel based machines. MACOS MONTEREY RELEASE Apple also released macOS Monterey along with the new MacBook Pro’s. macOS Monterey comes with SharePlay, Safari redesign, FaceTime Web Invites, Focus Mode, Quick Notes etc. There are many new features in the new OS update for the Apple laptops. One of the main things I am interested about is FaceTime Invite links. It means that people on the web can join your FaceTime calls. This is as close as you get for FaceTime on other platforms. I don’t think many people from other platform would like to initiate the FaceTime call since there are already many other options. With this open invite option your friend who doesn’t own Apple device can join the group calls. iCloud+ is getting some much needed revamped in this release also. Till now Apple allowed to use either iCloud email ID as Apple email address but with this release, iCloud+ members can bring in their own domain. So, you can create a family domain and share that domain with your family. All your family member can use that domain name to create email IDs. iCloud Private Relay is another feature which is a private VPN for iCloud+ members. All the traffic will be sent to Apple servers before asking the site to send the respond. This will increase the privacy for the people as the sites can’t track the origin of the requests. The feature is still in BETA and worked upon, but people can enable it in the iCloud settings to experience it. AIRPODS 3 LAUNCH Apple also launched the updated version of their wireless headphones for iPhone [https://techkle.com/best-bluetooth-headphones-iphone-x/] – AirPods 3. AirPods 3 replaces the AirPods 2 in the lineup with the design language of AirPods Pro. AirPods 3 also brings the Spatial audio to the economic model from the AirPods Pro. You can enjoy the surround sound with Apple Music or with your movies on this model. The battery life is also enhanced on the new model which will provide 6 hours of playtime on the single charge and 30 hours with the case. The AirPods 3 is priced at $179 while the AirPods Pro will be available at $249. Though AirPods Pro also got a upgraded case with MagSafe compatibility which will make it easy to charge with MagSafe chargers. My Personal advice for people to look for the old stock of AirPods Pro with non-MagSafe case [https://amzn.to/3GG6v4w]. The model should sell to an awfully close price of AirPods 3 and provides active noise cancellation along with Spatial audio. GOOGLE PIXEL 6 AND PIXEL 6 PRO So, this brings us to our next topic of Google’s latest release of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google has announced the latest iterations of its Pixel series phone with its own developed chip called Tensor. This is Google first attempt to build a custom mobile chip and from the initial reviews it look like the chip can compete with the premium smartphones chip in the market. It has on device machine learning and neural processing, custom image signal processor, on device context hub with reduced battery consumption. The device is available at two different models – Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The different between those devices is Adaptive Display Rate where Pro can use the refresh rates up to 120Hz. Pixel 6 Pro also comes with 12GB RAM rather than 8GB RAM. The Camera module is similar in both the phones, but the Pixel 6 Pro carries an extra Telephoto lens with triple camera setup. So, most of the pics from the camera will look similar expect Portraits. The additional camera also brings increased digital zoom in the Pro model. Main 50MP wide angle camera paired with Google Tensor Image processing capabilities can click some good pictures. The night mode images are also improved, and you can get some good shots even in dark places. For the normal users Pixel 6 is a good model which provides amazing day to day experience. So, if you are looking for a premium Android smartphone, this can be a suitable candidate. WINDOWS 11 RELEASE Microsoft also had a release in October with the latest version of Windows 11. Though most of the updates are related to UI refinement but there are some functionality improvements also. For example, Windows 11 allows you to install the Android application on your desktop. This means you can easily use millions of applications available on the Android [https://techkle.com/best-action-adventure-games-for-android/] PlayStore with Windows 11. There are already some unofficial efforts to install PlayStore on Windows 11 which will make it even easier to install the applications. The main UI refinements makes it more in line of MacBooks with clean interface, crisp icons, and ability to manage multiple virtual desktops. So, the UI interface brings a lot of improvement along with more tight integration with services like Microsoft Teams. You can start the Teams call from the Windows TaskBar, which hopefully will increase the Team adoption in general public. It already is one of the good enterprise tools for the video conferencing. Windows 10 will be supported till 2025, so there is no need to upgrade right away. But if not having access to Android apps is deal breaking, you can upgrade to Windows 11. FACEBOOK INC RENAME TO META In an official announcement from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is changing its name to Meta (Short for MetaVerse). According to them, it better represents the company strategy going forward. The social network names will remain same while the parent company name will be changed to Meta. So you will still see Facebook, WhatsApp, or Instagram but they will mention From Meta rather than Facebook. The idea of Metaverse is to create a virtual world where people will join using augmented reality [https://techkle.com/best-augmented-reality-photography-apps-iphone-x/] or virtual reality devices to spend time. They are planning to spend over $10 Billion this year on setting up the virtual world. The virtual world where people are free to do anything, buy virtual good, attend parties, or just take a stroll across a clean beach. The idea is to give people a virtual world where they can spend time and enjoy. So they are trying to create an experience for users with newer technologies which can keep their user base. We need to see how successful they would be. TNBT003 – iPhone 12, iPad Air 4th Generation, Facebook Gaming And Other Things

Hey Everyone, this is Sanjeev from Techkle. Welcome to this week’s episode of TNBT where we will cover the latest Tech news and updates. TNBT EPISODE SUMMARY There is a lot happening in the Tech world this October. Usually, we see this much activity in September with the launch of new iPhones and accessories. But this time the launch of the iPhones was delayed till mid of October due to COVID-19 and Apple has just started shipping latest devices. They have also announced the new iPhone Accessories standard called MegSafe which means we have a lot of new accessories coming into the market. We will talk about all these along with other latest news in this episode. IPHONE 12 AND MEGSAFE ACCESSORIES iPhone 12 Sitting On The Backyard [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/iphone-12-device-shipment-from-apple-1024x576.jpg]Apple has started shipping the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro model this week. The initial review of the device is positive and its selling like hotcakes. The current shipping estimates on Apple site are already down to 2-3 weeks if you order today. Though only two out of four models are available for sale currently. iPhone Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available to pre-order on November 6th with availability from November 13th onwards. Along with iPhones, Apple also launched a new set of accessories with new standard called MegSafe. Now, MegSafe is something that we use to see on older generation Mac’s before Apple shifted to USB-C standard. The good thing about the Mac MegSafe chargers was how easy it was to place it on charging pins. You just bring it close and it snaps on! Now, with the new line of accessories Apple wants the similar experience for iPhone users. You can just snap on different kind of accessories including chargers, wallet to use with your iPhone. Now no more fight to figure out if your wireless charger [https://techkle.com/best-wireless-chargers-iphone-8/] is aligned properly. MEGSAFE ACCESSORIES Apple has launched cases which will support MegSafe accessories that means you can snap chargers while keeping the case on. Now, we are seeing third party cases with the support of MegSafe standard hitting the market. OtterBox has announced MegSafe supported cases for all its lineup including Symmetry, Aneu, or Figura Series. You can pre-order those cases from the OtterBox site. Belkin has also announced some of the new accessories for iPhone 12 including new 3-in-1 MegSafe Wireless charger which will snap on your iPhone, charge it along with Apple Watch and AirPods. So, go ahead and take your pick for the MegSafe Accessories with the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. IPHONE 12 REVERSE CHARGING One of the expected features for iPhone 12 was reverse charging but Apple decided to not announce it in the iPhone 12 launch. Initially everyone though that iPhone 12 was not capable of reverse charging but with a new FTC filing, it looks other way round. Based on iPhone 12 FTC filing looks like iPhone 12 is capable enough to do reverse charging, just that Apple decided to not activate the functionality. One of the reasons might be lack of accessories which they would like iPhone to support. They might activate it when they will announce next generation AirPods that can take advantage of the reverse charging. Hopefully, we will see more and more accessories which can take advantage of this feature in future. IPAD AIR 4TH GENERATION iPad Air 4th Generation Device [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/best-cases-ipad-air-4th-generation-1024x575.jpg]Apple not only started shipping the iPhone but also started shipping iPad Air 4th Generation this week. People who pre-ordered have started receiving the device, including me. Till now, I was using MacBook and iPhone for most of my work and was thinking to add iPad in my inventory but never able to justify the iPad Pro use. Don’t get me wrong, iPad Pro’s are very capable machine [https://techkle.com/best-ipad-pro-apps-apple-pencil/] but may not be suitable for everyone. In my case, I do not plan to click many pictures from my iPad, so having advanced camera is one of the least prominent features on my list. Same goes for Face ID, I am using it on my iPhone, and it works great but the Touch ID is also convenient. It also allows to unlock the device easily while providing enough security. The only drawback with the regular iPad Air was outdated design. iPad Air 4th Gen fixes that issue. It provides modern design with a more affordable price point. It also comes with a new processor that will give it a good overall life. I have gotten my new iPad Air 2 days back and this episode is created on the new device..Hurray, Congratulations to me!! Having said that, there are new iPad Air 2020 Cases [https://techkle.com/best-cases-for-ipad-air-4th-generation/] and accessories available from Apple as well as third party venders. Some of the accessories including cases from iPad Pro 11-inch model will work fine on iPad Air also. It also gets a USB-C port, which means you can attach a host of accessories to the iPad Air. I am using my condenser microphone to record this podcast episode on iPad Air. You can also connect external monitors [https://techkle.com/best-usb-c-external-monitors-ipad-pro-macbook/] or hard disks to your new iPad. With all these changes, iPad Air becomes the go to machine for casual users. APPLE ONE SUBSCRIPTION PLAN Apple One will be available for subscription from today onwards, though Fitness+ will launch later fall. You can still subscribe the service from Apple site starting from $14.95 for individual and $19.95 for Family of six. The regions where Apple News+ [https://techkle.com/go/apple-news/] and Fitness+ is not available, plans will be maxed out on $19.95 plan otherwise you can subscribe to $29.95 plan to include all 6 services. Apple promised to reduce the prices based on your existing subscriptions in case you are already subscribed to any of the services. I personally, use Apple Music [https://techkle.com/go/apple-music/] and Apple TV+ [https://techkle.com/go/apple-tv/] with active subscription which already costs around $15. It means I can get additional service of Apple Arcade and iCloud storage for almost free with this bundle. Though I need to see how Apple handles the free subscriptions provided with iPad Air and this bundle. With the purchase of iPad Air, I have 1 year of Apple TV+ service free of cost. Since I was already a paying subscriber and had yearly plan, Apple extended the plan date for a year automatically, so I don’t need to pay anything for next year subscription. Let’s see how it will be handled with Apple One subscriptions. T-MOBILE TVISION STREAMING SERVICE T-Mobile is entering an overcrowded space of video streaming service. They have launched a new service called TVision which will provide Live TV Streaming. The plan starts for $10 a month for TVision Vibe, which provides around 30 live channels including categories of Drama, Comedy, or Lifestyle. If you are a sports fan, you can subscribe to TVision Live, which includes Sports channels. That will cost you upwards of $40 depending on the number of channels you want to subscribe. You will also have choice to top up your subscription from Premium channels at small monthly fee. Though, they claim that what they are charging is half of the monthly cost for regular connection, we need to see acceptance to this service. The market is already crowded with most of the content providers having their own streaming services [https://techkle.com/best-web-streaming-originals-of-2019/]. Though at the start, these services might be of interest as they provide a gourmet of channels at a fraction of price, but the model might not be sustainable. We all have seen how Google has increased the prices of YouTube TV subscription because it becomes unrealistic to keep running on these costs. LINKSYS NEW VELOP WIFI 6 MESH ROUTERS Linksys [https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-MX12600/] has launched a new Velop AX4200 WiFi 6 Mesh Routers [https://techkle.com/best-wifi-mesh-routers/] that is available for purchase right now. The WiFi 6 Router pack can support up to 120 devices with 3 nodes supporting the network. The router can be easily setup with the help of Linksys free mobile app. Once setup, you can control the routers with Alexa voice commands at home. The easiness and WiFi 6 support make it a good networking solution for large homes. Just to emphasize, WiFi 6 delivers up to 4 times higher speeds then WiFi 5. Though internet speed will still be limited based on your ISP line and its exceedingly rare that you will have more speed available then offered by WiFi 5. But internal network bandwidth will be eased off with this device. SONY CAMERAS AS WEBCAM ON MAC In another news from Sony, they have launched the new imaging software for macOS that will allow their Cameras to use as a WebCam. This is good news for the people who would like to Social Media Streaming [https://techkle.com/best-webcams-social-media-live-streaming/], since they can now use their Mirrorless camera as a Webcam. The software was available for Windows for some time and now Mac users are also can benefit from it. This way you do not need to buy high-end webcam for your video calls on Mac, you can use the existing Sony Camera and get the clear picture on the calls. FACEBOOK GAMING SERVICE Facebook is also entering the gaming streaming space with a new streaming service [https://www.facebook.com/fbgaminghome/blog/cloud-gaming-meet-facebook-gaming] which will be available on Web and Android Application. They are not launching it on iOS or Apple devices due to review restrictions from Apple. The service will be integrated with existing Facebook app rather than a separate application. The console quality games [https://techkle.com/best-shooting-games-for-ps4/] will be offered as part of service and progress will be synchronized across platforms. Though Apple devices will be excluded from this sync due to the restrictions. To start with they are offering some of the Mobile Games on the platform including Asphalt 9, PGA Tour Golf Shootout, WWE Supercard etc. The service is in BETA and will slowly be ramped up for console level games. But for now, you can try the service for free and play some of the games over cloud. Is there something else you would like to listen about or like us to cover as part of this Tech News series, please write to tn.feedback@techkle.com [tn.feedback@techkle.com]. TNBT002 – Galaxy Note 20 Shipments, PUBG Ban & Apple Upcoming Devices

Hi Everyone, this is Sanjeev from Techkle. Welcome to yet another episode of TNBT where we will cover the latest Tech news and updates. EPISODE SUMMARY PUBG Mobile Game Ban In India [https://techkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/pubg-mobile-game-ban-in-india-1024x576.jpg]In this episode, we will not only cover the latest Samsung flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 20 but will also talk about Pixel 4a and other devices launched recently. Apple has also prepared for the release of new devices including the iPhone 12. So, let’s start with this episode and dig into the latest news. SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 20 SHIPMENTS Samsung started shipping the latest flagship device – Galaxy Note 20 to the customers. To the customer’s surprise, they have decided to not include the USB-C headphones for the North America region. So, if you are buying the phone in North America, you will not get the wired headphone in the box. Though, if you are planning to usewireless headphones with Galaxy Note 20 [https://techkle.com/best-bluetooth-headphones-for-samsung-galaxy-note/], you will not be worried about this news. Though Samsung is saying that this has been done for the environment protection. Most of the customers already have headphones and do not use the wired headphones included in the box. In case you want the USB-C wired headphones, you can call the customer service and they will ship one for you free of cost. GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC IS GOING AWAY Google announced that Google Play Music is the latest service to see the end of life by October 2020. They are making YouTube Music as the premier music service from the group. YouTube music is available on Google Assistant devices in an Ad-Supported manner. It also supports the music upload up to 100,000 songs even when you are not a paid subscriber. Since Google Play Music also provided a service to upload your music, Google is now allowing you to transfer those songs to YouTube Music. Make use of this service and transfer the uploaded music to YouTube Music. In another update, Google is planning to launch Pixel 4a 5G version and Pixel 5 later this month. The devices should be announced by last week of September. INDIA BANNED PUBG AND 188 OTHER APPS In a recent announcement, India has banned PUBG and 188 other Chinese Apps citing the National Security & Cyber Security as a reasons. They have shown concern about the way these Apps are using the collected data. This is the third time India has banned Chinese Apps this year. Earlier they have banned Popular app TikTok and WeChat along with many other apps. Tencent, a company that owns PUBG has lost over $34 billion in the last few days in the valuations. WHATSAPP FACT CHECK OPTION WhatsApp is adding an option to fact check forwarded messages. It will add a little search icon in front of the forwarded message and automatically take you to browser with pre-filled queries in case you want a fact check. The whole process is encrypted and WhatsApp doesn’t read the message which is being Fact Checked. It just pass on the message to browser to search it on the internet and find the facts about it. This can be a good way to allow people to make sure they are able to check the validity of the forwarded message or any other related news. AMAZON LAUNCHED HALO FITNESS BAND Amazon is the latest company to enter the wearable market with the new fitness band Halo. Halo is a strap with all the sensors added to it. It has all the sensors hid behind the strap which is available in 3 colors and sizes. The straps are like Apple Watch Bands [https://techkle.com/best-apple-watch-bands-for-men/] which is replaceable and can be purchased separately. You can interchange them to go with your dress. The band has no screen attached to it and will be used along with Amazon Halo app on Android or iOS. The band and app comes with some unique applications like body composition, voice tone analysis, etc. It uses phone camera to take multiple photos of person and does body analysis to find the body fat ratio etc. Along with that it uses voice tone analysis to find the mood of the person. The device will retail for $99 but for a limited time its available at 30% discount on Amazon. The health services will be subscription based and will be available at $3.99 per month. First 6 month subscription is free with the device. Buy It From Amazon [https://amzn.to/2R2c9FH] APPLE & EPIC GAMES BATTLE Apple and Epic Games are generating a lot of news due to the legal battle on App Store Commission. Epic Games is not happy with the 30% cut they need to give to Apple and they decided to offer their own payment method for Fortnite in-app purchases. This is a violation of the current App Store policy as Apple asks them to use the Apple Payments method. They decided to skip that and gave a 10% discount to customers in case they want to use Epic Games direct payment method. In result, Apple pulls the Fortnite from the App Store and canceled the Epic Games Developer account. They are involved in a legal battle where Epic Games is claiming that App Store policies are not faring to developers and gives Apple undue advantage. They are also asking to bring the Fortnite back to App Store from court till the legal proceeding are going on. There are some exceptions to Apple 30% commission for example, Amazon only pays 15% commission to Apple for the in-app purchases. This is being cited as not an equal playground for all the developers. Apple says Epic Games has sought the deal for themselves, but once it was not done they decided to go in different directions. Since Fortnite is one of the successful games, avid mobile gamers are at loss. They are sitting on their video gaming chairs [https://techkle.com/best-video-gaming-chairs/] without their most liked games to play. APPLE UPCOMING DEVICES The last 4 months of the year is always busy for Apple. They always launch new iPhone and US updates in these 4 months. This year looks like the iPhone 12 launch will be delayed till mid of October. Since iPhone 12 is getting delayed, Apple’s usual September event will also be pushed to October and might happen on October 12th. The shipment might start on October 19th. Apple is planning to launch a new iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV along with iPhone 12. Now looks like rather then a single launch event, they are planning to the staggered release of these devices. According to a leak, Apple Watch and the new iPad will be launched in September via a press release. They will update the Apple online store and will be shipped as early as mid of September. Apple will release the iPhone 12 and MacBook 12-inch with A14X silicon chip in the mid-October event. They are not planning to delay the launch of latest OS updates [https://techkle.com/001-apple-wwdc-microsoft-retail-store-closing/]. Looks like iOS 14 will be released later this month to the devices. It’s already had 7 developer BETA releases till now and most of the functionality is working good. There are few bugs which should be fixed in later BETA’s. GOOGLE PRODUCT UPDATES Google has also announced some of the updates for their products in the past week. They are also enhancing their tools like Google Meet to include GOOGLE VERIFIED CALLS Verified calls will show helpful information on the screen to tell you why a business is trying to reach you. Business needs to send some information to Google’s Server and once it’s verified it will show up on your screen. It can be a good way to differentiate between spam call and important calls from business. GOOGLE PHOTO UPDATE Google Photo is also getting some new interface changes including new icon, clear layout and new Maps view to show your photo across the maps. Should be a good view for people who likes to travel.
