Coming at ya from Tokyo, Japan! This podcast has to do with identity and how we confront our roots in an ever changing demographic landscape of mixes and halves and people raised here but really from there and all sorts of other people. Will be bringing a new guest each episode to learn about their experiences and how that has influenced their lives. My name is Ramsey Gomez, I'm an Algerian-Colombian American and I'm your host. Now let's learn about eachother! "We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another."

Welcome back to The Blurred Line podcast! This week we've got my friend, Carolinne Hanaoka. Carolinne and I used to attend the same university and internship. She's a fully ethnic nikkei Japanese, raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil as a 3rd generation Brazilian, and moved to Tokyo, Japan in middle school. We go on to talk about a variety of subjects ranging from her experiences growing up as an ethnic Japanese in Brazil, to her experience growing up in Japan with the heart and mind of a Brazilian. Among other things, we also talked about the feeling of isolation being a foreigner, the history of the Japanese diaspora (nikkeijin), and how difficult it is to apply for a Japanese citizenship, even as a nikkeijin. I might have tried to convert her to BJJ in the end too hahaha Thanks for listening guys! If you have any feedback, both positive and negative, please let me know. I'm having fun doing it, but I want you to enjoy the experience as well! Carolinne's Instagram: @linnemih

Welcome back to The Blurred Line podcast! This week we've got my friend, Ekamjot Bedi. Ekam and I are classmates together at the same university. He's an Indian-Japanese Sikh born and raised in Tokyo, Japan! Ekam's tall stature and extroverted personality stick out in typical Japanese society, yet there's no other place he feels more at home. We go on to talk about a variety of subjects ranging from his experience growing up in Japan with the appearance of a foreigner to his experience visiting his family in India for the first time. Among other things, we also talked about religious practices, future career goals, and family history. Thanks for listening guys! If you have any feedback, both positive and negative, please let me know. I'm having fun doing this, but I want you to enjoy the experience as well! Next episode we have Carolinne Hanaoka! She's fully ethnically Japanese, but is a 3rd generation Brazilian born and raised in Brazil. Please look forward to hearing from her in 2 weeks!

Welcome back to The Blurred Line podcast! This week we've got my good friend, Ken Hioki. Ken and I know each other from attending the same university and the same BJJ gym. He's a Japanese-Thai born in Phuket, Thailand, but has lived many years in Thailand, Japan, and even the US! Ken has just moved back to Thailand after living in Tokyo for quite a while, so I definitely wanted to have him on this podcast before he left. We go on to talk about a variety of subjects ranging from his experiences in each country he's lived in, to his experiences in corporate Japan. Among other things, we also talked about influences from childhood and then a bit about our lives doing BJJ together (maybe a little too much. I'll be sure to control myself more lol). Thanks for listening guys! I'm sorry I haven't posted for a while. I could sit here and make excuses, but to be honest, I just wasn't being disciplined enough. I've already got 2 other episodes recorded and edited and will be posting each video two weeks apart so you will have time to watch each one without stress. I'll be recording more episodes along the way so there'll always be something for me to post. If you have any feedback, both positive and negative, please let me know. I'm having fun doing it, but I want you to enjoy the experience as well! Next episode we have Ekam Bedi! He's half Indian, half Japanese and is a real "Sikh" guy! (Yeah I said it, sue me) Ken Instagram: @kensama21

Welcome back to The Blurred Line podcast! This week we have my good friend, Frank Shintaro McMullin. Me and Frank both intern together at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Minato, Tokyo. He's a Japanese-American born and raised in California. Frank has visited Japan every year since he was a child, however, for the first time he's getting to live abroad in Tokyo and explore his Japanese roots. We go on to talk about a variety of subjects ranging from experiencing his Asian roots in America to his memories of visiting Japan as a child raised in a strict Buddhist sect. Among other things, we covered the difference between racism in Japan vs racism in America, textbook controversies within Japan, and Studio Ghibli vs the (superior) Disney. Thanks for listening guys! I improved on the camera angle thankfully and we didn't get cut off mid-conversation from a dead camera battery haha. Added a little intro at the beginning I may or may not keep. Working on getting a second mic soon for sure. I've still got a bunch of other things to work on to make this more legitimate, but improving ever slowly! Next episode we have my buddy, Ken-sama! He's half Thai, half Japanese and will choke you in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Franks Instagram: @_frankmcmullin

Welcome to the first episode of Blurred Line! Sorry about the technical difficulties. I wanted to stop making excuses for myself and decided to just jump headfirst into the podcasting world. We were both a little nervous at the beginning, so please excuse the minor rambling. We get better as the episode goes on. Mistakes were made, but lessons were learned. I plan on making a new episode every 2 weeks, so hopefully I'll keep getting better at this podcasting thing hahaha Thanks for watching guys and stay tuned for the next episode with my friend Franky boy who's an Asian-American from California.
