Several times over the last few weeks, I have been asked about Phoebe and whether or not she was a deacon in the sense of the Biblical office. And then there was one sad example where when I mentioned how powerfully God used some of the Biblical deacons in the New Testament that someone shocked me by adding, “and some of those were women”. I was immediately taken aback by the comment and I asked, do you mean Phoebe? The person nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders. I interjected that his assertion was very much a misunderstanding of the text, especially since no major English translation even translates the underlying Greek word as anything other than “servant”. The word, deacon, is a peculiar word in English. It is a transliteration. Transliteration is the process of converting text from one writing system or alphabet into another by matching sounds. Unlike translation, which focuses on changing the actual meaning of words, transliteration focuses entirely on spelling or pronouncing them, allowing readers to read foreign words in a familiar alphabet. For the last while, I have been bombarded with King James Only Hyper-Dispensationalists. Seriously, I have not encountered a single one of these people who are not hardcore KJV Onlyists. In past videos, I have asked, what good is a perfect Bible with horrible theology? Why claim a perfect book when you are going to throw away everything except for 13 books in the New Testament that are authored by Paul?

Reviewing The Jay Dyer vs Jonathan Shelley Debate on Tradition vs Sola Scriptura

Around 10 days ago, Eastern Orthodox apologist, Jay Dyer, and NIFB Pastor Jonathan Shelley had, what was called, a debate on Tradition vs Sola Scriptura on the Modern-Day Debate channel. I watched it so you don’t have to.I want to make it clear that I was wanting Shelley to do well. While he says that Jonathan Burris is a piece of scum, fake pastor that hates Jesus and hates the word of God and best thing Jonathan Burris can do is to die and go to hell, I sincerely wanted him to defend Sola Scriptura. Needless to say, I was left wanting.Shelley was ill-prepared and out of his league by an order of magnitude against Jay Dyer. These NIFB pastors like Shelley are comfortable inside the comfort zones of their church's echo chamber where they control the bully pulpit with dictatorial authority, but in the scholarly arena, Shelley proved himself unequipped from a scholarly perspective, and absent the demeanor to go toe-to-toe with someone as arrogant as himself, but much more steeped in Church history and apologetics. I am not a Dyer fan. A commenter asked me why I never addressed Luke 9:56. So, I want to do that today.

A friend sent me a lengthy Facebook post and asked me to respond it. It was a post by a “Pastor Michael Wells”. There is no about information on the account and it looks to have been created in the last few weeks. There is no information on where he is a pastor, and no other substantive reason to think that this account is real. Pastor Michael Wells’ account seems to be a fake account created to pitch “The Most Complete Ethiopian Bible”.
