Every Story & Poem in 150
In this episode of the Space and Time Magazine podcast, Ryan Aussie Smith and Angela Yuriko Smith return to the original purpose of the show: spotlighting the fiction and poetry published in Space and Time. They explain that future episodes will focus more deeply on one story and one poem per issue, but this episode offers a rapid tour through the stories and poems in Issue 150, themed around “Rest is Resistance.”
Together they frame the issue as a celebration of contributors whose work explores rest, silence, stillness, refusal, dreams, and endurance as forms of rebellion. They discuss each piece briefly, sharing what stood out to them and highlighting a favorite line from each work. The episode moves between speculative fiction, poetry, experimental forms, dystopian settings, and philosophical reflections on productivity, time, silence, and survival.
By the end, Angela and Ryan position Issue 150 as both a literary showcase and a thematic meditation on exhaustion, survival, and creative resistance. They close by noting that the podcast will continue with deeper weekly conversations about individual stories and poems, giving each piece more room for discussion and honoring the writers whose work appears in the magazine.
