12 Voices, One God – 15: Habakkuk Part 1

This week, we introduce the book of Habakkuk, a prophetic dialogue that wrestles honestly with God amid injustice and confusion. In contrast to Nahum’s confident declaration of judgment against Assyria, Habakkuk voices deep questions about God’s justice in light of Judah’s suffering and God’s announcement that He will raise up Babylon to conquer Judah. The prophet’s journey—from complaint, through waiting, to worship—models a path of faithful questioning and enduring trust. In this teaching, we begin our two weeks in the Book of Jonah, a book we revisit every year at Yom Kippur. In Jonah, God challenges the prophet’s adherence to strict justice. Jonah wants Nineveh punished, and he doesn’t believe God’s mercy in sparing the city after they repent is a good plan.
