Faith and Power

In Matthew 17:14–20, Jesus healed a boy who was suffering severely after His disciples were unable to cast out a demon. Desperate for help, the boy’s father brought his son to Jesus, who rebuked the demon and immediately restored the child. Later, when the disciples asked why they had failed, Jesus explained that their lack of faith had hindered them. As Ulises Villegas notes, Jesus taught that even faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish what seems impossible when it is rooted in and dependent upon God’s power.

Shadows to Substance

Hebrews 8:1–13 is a powerful declaration that Jesus is the perfect High Priest who mediates a better covenant than the old Mosaic system. The earthly tabernacle and sacrifices were only shadows of the heavenly reality fulfilled in Christ. Dr. David Nystrom shares that through the new covenant, God writes His law on believers’ hearts, offers complete forgiveness of sins, and establishes a direct relationship with His people, making the old covenant obsolete through Jesus’ finished work.

A Better Hope

Hebrews 7:11–28 reveals the superiority of Jesus as our eternal High Priest. Better Mediator

Hebrews 7:1–10 confronts our tendency to rely on what is familiar by revealing a greater priesthood. Melchizedek appears without genealogy, showing that God’s authority is not based on lineage but on divine appointment. Abraham honors him, recognizing that the one God appoints is greater. Even the Levitical system is shown to be subordinate. Pastor Meeks shares the importance of not depending on temporary systems or traditions—our confidence rests in Jesus Christ, the eternal priest who never fails and never needs replacing.
