Acerca de Communion

We gather here today as friends to seek and hold communion while challenging the status quo on all things life, love, God, and death. Together we aim to spread light and facilitate collective liberation through authentic, loving conversation. About the hosts: Katerina is a love poet, creator, and weaver of the sacred into the everyday. Mercedez is an artist, activist, and devout advocate of joy, play, and healthy hedonism. Pedro is a leader in consciousness and cultural transformation, poet, rapper, and purveyor of God's love and light.

The Patriarchy is Nonbinary

In this episode we discuss: * Backlash for challenging toxic gender norms * The reinforcement of patriarchy by women * What would the matriarchy do? * Systemic perceptions of beauty * Pedophilia in our collective conscious, determining our body standards, influencing our psyches * Realizing our own complicity within bondage * Fasting to discover the Self outside of prescribed roles * Travel as a source of liberation and grief * The power of queerness and alternative labels as a way of decentering men * The fluidity of love, energy, and identity **paraphrased from Paulo Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" [https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Paulo+Freire%27s+%22Pedagogy+of+the+Oppressed%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&mstk=AUtExfB7XBEpdkDzWfMdFnWVRgNaGNylSUYDh1QIcdy__pL-ezg7OQ1fk1if4Z02d0TLMSUdxusPCcYAeK_ne0zvBqYP1FQ4YZvh2bfS6weO0rZIb3Q6icpjJKKzVgd3a4Rd1le_3GV7iHqn8puk_8elBAAofq7XgwgjoiNO6dUg1H6S5gQ&csui=3&ved=2ahUKEwii3pSb1fiTAxWFMUQIHTi9HPEQgK4QegQIARAB]

episode Poetic Terrorism artwork

Poetic Terrorism

“We need to be shocked into beauty.” Welcome to the Temporary Autonomous Zone.  In this episode, we discuss being “stuck” in the body, and Hakeem Bey’s concept of Temporary Autonomous Zones: an artistic means of transcending the rules of our current realities. We delve into our relationships with our bodies, their wisdom, and the dangers of overidentification with them. We discuss liberatory tactics such as Poetic Terrorism to disrupt the mundane and shock people into beauty – as well as the burdens that come with being the disruptor. We discuss when to stay and fight, the love and freedom in letting go, and the role forgiveness plays in it all.
