Episode 31- Why do companies need more money to grow?

You build a lemonade stand, and people actually love it. So why would you need someone else’s money? Shouldn’t a good business pay for itself? Then you try to open another stand, buy better tools, and tell more people you exist. Suddenly, the money you made is not enough. That’s when startup funding starts to make more sense. But it is not free money. Someone gives you money now because they believe the startup could become much bigger later.

Episode 30 - How does plastic even become a balloon?

You pick up a birthday balloon, and it feels almost impossible. It is thin, light, stretchy, and somehow it holds air without falling apart. But then the weird part starts. Plastic can be hard like LEGO, soft like a bag, or shiny like a birthday balloon. So how can one material family do so many different things? And how does something that may start deep underground end up floating above a birthday table? The answer begins with tiny pieces joining into long chains.

Some stones are tiny like sand, and some are huge like mountains. How can they all be stones? And how does something soft like sand turn into something hard? Some stones even come from melted rock deep underground. And somehow… a diamond is part of this story too.

You see people buying iPhones, burgers, shoes, and Coke every day. And somehow… those companies keep getting bigger. Then you hear someone say they “own stock” in Apple or McDonald's. Wait… what does that even mean? You can’t walk into Nike and take home one shoe shelf. So how can regular people own part of a company? And if the company makes more money… do you get some too?
