Dr. Johnny V. Baylor Ministries
John 17: 1-5 NKJV How can you be in church all your life and still not know who to worship? As Jesus continues His prayer in John 17, we are brought deeper into His heart—not just for Himself, but for those entrusted to Him. In this message, we see Jesus praying for the security of His disciples in the face of very real opposition—the world, religious systems, and the enemy himself. But the weight of this prayer reveals something even more sobering: it is possible to be surrounded by truth… and still not be rooted in it. Because being in the right place doesn’t guarantee the right posture. Though the disciples had been chosen out of the world, they were still being sent back into it—called to live set apart while navigating the tension of what once shaped them. And like them, we too must wrestle with the reality that we don’t just need protection from what’s around us… but from what’s within us. So Jesus prayed. He prayed for their faith. He prayed for their endurance. He prayed that what had been entrusted to them would not be lost—even when the enemy desired to sift them. And in that prayer, we see the necessity of something greater than human effort: the covering, the keeping, and the unifying power of the Holy Spirit. Because true security is not found in proximity to church… and true unity is not found in shared spaces. They are found in a life anchored in God, shaped by truth, and sustained by His Spirit. This message will challenge what you think you know… and call you into a deeper, more secure, and more unified walk with Him. Because if Jesus prayed for it—there’s a reason you need it.
