Since the 1970's water researchers have been worried about nitrate pollution in Iowa waterways, in 1992 Des Moines Water Works installed the world's largest nitrate removal system and just this week - May of 2026 - Central Iowa's two major water drinking sources were too polluted to drink. Jones has been studying cause-effect for his entire career and now he's taking big action. Chris Jones is running for Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture. What sets Jones apart from other scientists is his ability to communicate a complex topic to the general public and it's working. Good&Game - Rob Faux - Conversation 2.6

We’ve reached the penultimate conversation in our secondcollection of conversations. Rob Faux moved to northeast Iowa with plans to be a professor, but those plans were diverted.  Faux started a small-scaled, diversified farm in 2004. Growing food for his family and his neighbors. In the summer of 2012, just as Faux was starting to bear the fruit from years of work and the traditional challenges that come with starting a farm, a plane spraying chemicals and pesticide kept the nozzle open as itsoared over his crops, his animals and himself. Good and Game - Liz Garst - Conversation 2.4

Liz Garst comes from a family of farming pioneers andconservationist. Most notably her grandfather, Roswell, developed the hybrid corn seed in 1930 which revolutionized global corn farming. But there’s much more to the Garst story and it’s still being written. After earning degrees from Stanford, Michigan State and Harvard Liz joined the Peace Corp and laterworked at World Bank before returning to Iowa to manage the family farm.  In our latest conversation focused on how the environmentimpacts the health of Iowans, Liz helps us understand the history and evolution of farming in Iowa and what we need to do for its future.
