The Origins of Metal

Hannah Davey and Tyler Hartman are excited to be back to talking music! Also there's a small detour to talking about movie soundtracks introducing us to bands/music. You can email us at hdandtylerhartman@gmail.com. Playlists: Disco Elysium (and Cover Song Musings)

CONTENT WARNING: Discussion (but not really spoilers) for the video game Disco Elysium, including mention of some of the dark themes it covers and the fact that it has a LOT of the use of a specific homophobic slur. Hannah Davey and Tyler Hartman are here to talk about music! Tyler is a dad rock (formerly punk) musician with industry knowledge and music production experience, Hannah Davey is a media enthusiast, writer, and podcast producer with opinions. Hannah Davey has, in an unusual twist, fallen in love with a video game! Very unlike them. They discuss a bit of what playing Disco Elysium is like (not a happy time, but an interesting and occasionally hilarious time) and the playlist they built [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3JVlR52aEmVW3pZbfxURrL?si=3f9effe70bd7478e] to capture the feeling of the game and the way that they experienced it. Tyler is so impressed with people who take art and make it their own, making the world bigger and cooler because of their interpretation. We also discuss covering songs and what that means to Tyler, and he discusses his plan for covering a song from the movie ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ that hit him hard. You can email us at hdandtylerhartman@gmail.com. Find Tyler Hartman’s music at www.tylerjohnhartmanmusic.com and all major streaming services. Concert Talk: Murder by Death and Amigo the Devil

Hannah Davey and Tyler Hartman are here to talk about music! Tyler is a dad rock (formerly punk) musician with industry knowledge and music production experience, Hannah Davey is a media enthusiast, writer, and podcast producer with opinions. The band Murder by Death made it to Hannah Davey’s Top Band of Spotify 2022 on their Spotify Wrapped, and it was up there on Tyler’s Spotify Wrapped for 2022 as well. It’s been a while since we recorded our thoughts on music, but HD is ready to talk about the MBD vibe and Amigo the Devil’s in-concert charisma, and Tyler shares his past experiences listening to both bands and seeing them live.  You can email us at hdandtylerhartman@gmail.com. Swords and Nick Lutsko

Hannah Davey and Tyler Hartman are here to talk about music! Tyler is a dad rock (formerly punk) musician with industry knowledge and music production experience, Hannah Davey is a media enthusiast, writer, and podcast producer with opinions. Tyler is very excited to talk about Nick Lutsko’s latest album, ’Swords.’ He compares Nick Lutsko to Tim Kasher’s album ‘Cursive,’ Hannah Davey sees some Lemon Demon in this, and the two of them talk about the beautiful value of song composition. Tyler recommends Nick Lutsko's music videos, too, especially to the song “All Shook Up,” which is his favorite song (not on the ’Swords’ album). This leads us into discussing the value of brats and hot dogs. Stick around for a couple minutes after the outro to get a little glimpse into HD’s Texas non-adventure, too—this conversation has a lot of layers. You can email us at hdandtylerhartman@gmail.com. Friend Talk: Indie Rap Recommendations

Hannah Davey and Tyler Hartman are here to talk about music! Tyler is a dad rock (formerly punk) musician with industry knowledge and music production experience, Hannah Davey is a media enthusiast, writer, and podcast producer with opinions. Tyler and his friend Derrick reminisce about their experiences playing various venues in Minneapolis, like the Red Raven, where it was a struggle to get an audience but a great space with great potential. Hannah Davey and Tyler interview Derrick about his process of making music, which is lyrics-heavy work compared to Tyler’s song-first-then-lyrics process. We get into what got all of us into hip hop music, too, and we have a whole list of albums to check out if you like nu metal (thanks, Derrick and Tyler) and esoteric indie rap. You can email us at hdandtylerhartman@gmail.com. Find Tyler Hartman’s music at www.tylerjohnhartmanmusic.com and all major streaming services. Find what Hannah Davey’s working on at hd-creates.neocities.org. Derrick’s music is all available at fidderrr.bandcamp.com.
