Katherine O’Donnell, a Richmond Region native and University of Richmond graduate, has dedicated 24 years of her career to Richmond Region Tourism, rising from an entry-level publications coordinator to the organization’s president and CEO. Her trajectory exemplifies a deep commitment to both the tourism industry and the Richmond community, marked by several pioneering initiatives and leadership milestones. Career Journey and Key Roles: -Started in tourism shortly after college, initially creating visitor guides and maps. -Progressed through marketing roles, then founded the community relations division about 13 years ago, focusing on engaging Richmond residents rather than solely targeting external visitors. -Played a leadership role in launching community-driven marketing campaigns such as out RVA (LGBTQ community-focused) and Black RVA (highlighting Black communities), both aimed at shifting outdated perceptions of Richmond. -Served as Executive Vice President for five years during a planned CEO succession. Named President and CEO approximately a year and a half ago. We hope you learn as much as we did!
