A Little Leaven... Deep love for the church and for Christ requires taking sin seriously rather than ignoring destructive choices. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul calls the church to be proactive in confronting unrepentant sin. Church discipline isn't about spite or rejection, it is an act of grace to humble a hardened heart, rescue a stumbling believer, and restore them safely back to fellowship. Because Jesus gave His life as our spotless sacrifice, we honor Him by pursuing a sincere, holy, and repentant church where Christ is honored.

The Foolishness of Christian Pride Spiritual pride is a destructive, creeping force that fractures church unity and positions believers in direct opposition to God. Defeating this subtle sin requires absolute submission to the boundaries of the Scriptures and regular, honest self-assessment. If we are to experience the fullness of following Jesus, it will require us embracing an example of sacrifice and looking like a "fool for Christ" to the world, rather than chasing comfort or social prestige. Ultimately, God offers each of us the choice between the rod of divine discipline or the grace of a gentle Savior.

Building Beautifully With God Human labor yields nothing of eternal value unless it partners with God to build His church. Leaders are merely assigned servants—waiters delivering a meal or farmhands watering seeds—while God alone produces spiritual growth. The church is God’s holy temple, a collective people built exclusively upon the unshakeable foundation of Jesus Christ. Daily acts of faithfulness and good works serve as beautiful materials like gold and silver, adorning the gospel. Because God fiercely protects His dwelling place, destructive division brings severe judgment, while laboring to build up people ensures an enduring, purposeful reward.

May 17, 2026 | Week 4 of Foolish Church (1 Corinthians 2:1–3:4)

Spiritual Things for Spiritual People... True spiritual maturity is defined by possessing the Spirit of God, rather than worldly superstition or intellectual brilliance. Faith must be rooted in the Spirit’s power, not human persuasion, because only the Spirit can reveal the hidden, superior wisdom of God. While unspiritual people are "dead" to these truths, believers receive the mind of Christ, allowing them to evaluate life through God’s perspective. Consequently, Christians must not live as "mere humans" characterized by envy and strife. Instead, they are called to think and behave like the Savior who dwells within them.
