Making with Machines
For this episode of Making with Machines Jori travels to Rotterdam to meet Stijn van Aardenne. During Covid, Stijn started building his own, large format, 3D printer. Over the years, he has upgraded it with a pallet extruder and a rotating buildplate. The objects that can be made with this unique printing approach have come to define the design language of the Stijn's work. The lamps he makes are informed by what the machine can do, and more importantly, by what it cannot do, yet. During the conversation we discuss the motivation behind Stijn's work, his design process and what it's like to run a small business selling 3D printed design lamps. Whether you already know Stijn's work or you're discovering it just know you will learn more about the man behind the machine and the machine that he built.
