Acerca de Math Routine Collaborative Podcast

The Math Routine Collaborative Podcast is a monthly podcast that captures the professional learning that happens when educators come together to think deeply about mathematics and instruction. Recorded after each Math Routines Collaborative virtual session, each episode will highlight a specific math thinking routine, introduce the educator who facilitated the session, and share our collective a-has that emerged from our shared conversations.

Visual Patterns with Fawn Nguyen - April, 2026

Welcome to the April 2026 Math Routine Collaborative Podcast! This month, Fawn Nguyen joined the group and we talked about and worked through the Visual Pattern routine. During the podcast we talked a lot about how visual patterns have so many different entry points, inspire so much rich thinking and discussion, how much we learn from engaging in working through visual patterns as teachers, and so much more. I am a big big fan of visual patterns and often work through them on my own just to do some rich mathematical thinking and noticing. This helps me learn and be a better teacher educator, and I highly recommend doing the same thing yourself! I am also a big big fan of Fawn’s substack. If you aren’t reading it, you 100% should. She has so many amazing observations through her work with students and teaches and after reading one of her posts, I am always left thinking about something new in my own practice. I’ve linked both the visual pattern site and her substack in the show notes. Sit back and enjoy this conversation with Fawn. She is so insightful - it was a real treat to be able to spend some time with her on a Sunday evening in April! Same and Different with Karen Campe - March, 2026

Welcome to the March 2026 Math Routine Collaborative podcast! This month, Karen Campe visited the MRC to engage participants in the Same or Different routine. We did an elementary level and secondary level task and the conversations were phenomenal. In the podcast, you’ll hear me mention something about how different things would have been for me in high school math class if routines like these would have been used. I was to sit, listen, take notes, and mimic my teachers. It never worked for me. Participating in these monthly sessions has really opened my eyes, even more than they already were open, to the incredible value of engaging in routines like this one on a regular basis. You should really try to attend if you can! Other big ideas from this month’s MRC are facilitating moves that work for everyone, the growth each of us is making (e.g. the things we’re thinking about now vs. things we were thinking about before) the value of the mathematical thinking ALL our students have, and making room for quiet voices, alternative views, and not making any student feel "dumb" or that they have nothing to contribute. episode True/False with Dr. Alison Mello - February, 2026 artwork

True/False with Dr. Alison Mello - February, 2026

In this episode we are joined by Dr. Alison Mello who guided the MRC through a True/False Math Routine this month. Three of my favorite things that come up in this conversation are how our own vulnerability in engaging in the math tasks helped us learn so much - not only about the routine - but also how our students might enter the conversation. We also have an awesome discussion about how rich tasks hit so many of the practice (or some states call them process) standards. This is such a crucial part of the conversation because our practice standards are just as important as our content standards because the way students engage in math matters. And lastly - the power of facilitation and how to be an authentic scribe during the thinking routine. And that’s just three things. There’s so much more! This is good stuff, folks! Join us every 3rd Sunday of each month! Learn more at how to join us at https://www.strongermath.com/mrc/ [https://www.strongermath.com/mrc/] and find all the information you need to know about the True/False routine at www.trueorfalsemath.com [http://www.trueorfalsemath.com].

Notice and Wonder with Annie Fetter - January, 2026

Hey everyone and welcome to January’s Math Routine Collaborative Podcast episode! In this episode Annie Fetter, Ralph Pantozzi, Shelby Strong and Courtney talk about the Notice and Wonder routine Annie guided all of the participants of January’s MRC through. We talk about staying true to the routine, the importance of annotating EVERYTHING participants say, the value of engaging in mathematics the same way we want our students to, and so much more. You can find the Notice and Wonder activities in which we engaged during the meeting and talk about here! [https://drive.google.com/file/d/195CpRutOUirMfYtpsb2UG0lBq0WLZHSg/view?usp=sharing] We’re glad you’re here. Whether Notice and Wonder is brand new to you or a familiar routine, this conversation offers space to reflect on how we show up as learners alongside our students. Settle in and listen as we unpack what we noticed, what we wondered, and what we’re still thinking about. Sign up to join us at https://www.strongermath.com/mrc/ [https://www.strongermath.com/mrc/]
