This week Elle talks with Professor Barbara Ley and University of Delaware student Rain Dehel about the Decades Day Workshop put on by the Women and Gender Studies Department. As part of their 50th anniversary celebration the UD department is hosting five workshops focusing on one decade. The second workshop centers the 1980s and HIV/AIDS crisis. Philadelphia ACT UP activists spoke with students about ongoing efforts to address HIV, income inequality, and LGBTQ+ discrimination.

Introducing a three part series with retired professor and Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Southeast Missouri State University. In 2004, her son Leslie was killed by police. Dr. Prater has made it her mission to prevent police misconduct and brutality ever since. She discusses her efforts to get accountability for her son and the work she does so that other families are spared what she experienced. In March, Dr. Prater and Sybrina Fulton (the mother of Trayvon Martin) spoke at the University of Delaware’s Ida B. Wells Lecture. This three-part series captures Dr. Prater’s story.
