Directed by longtime D-lister Nico Mastorakis and staring Nastassja Kinski, Nicollette Sheridan, Roger Daltrey and Huey Lewis, the film follows a paralyzed woman who stumbles upon a live-stream killer on the early internet. We dive into the film’s peak-Y2K aesthetic, the hilarious logistics of its technology, and how it captured a unique moment when the World Wide Web really did feel “wide.” In our bonus feature segment, we leverage Mastorakis’s “pedigree” to dig into the history of exploitation cinema. Based on Stefanie Zweig's autobiographical novel, the film tells the story of a Jewish family fleeing Nazi Germany to start a new life on a remote farm in Kenya. We dive into the film’s exploration of cultural displacement, the nuanced portrayal of familial relationships through the lens of a young girl approaching adolescence and discuss what it “home” really means. BONUS: This Movie Destroyed Me ("A.I. Artificial Intelligence" with Derek from the Glitterjaw Podcast Collective)

Hi, Josh here. I put off watching A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE for a long time and immediately after watching felt like I had to talk about it. This might be my favorite movie of the year. This is a monumental collaboration between Stanley Kubrick (who conceived it) and Steven Spielberg (who wrote and directed it after Kubrick's death). Haley Joel Osment gives a performance of a lifetime as David, the first Mecha designed to act as a loving child. So much ensues, and it produces way more to feel and think about than I could've dreamed. Bonus episodes are always loose, but this might take the cake. This One's for the Losers ("Ghost World")

GHOST WORLD, Terry Zwigoff’s 2001 adaptation of the Daniel Clowes comic book with the same name, departs from the source material in some key material ways but is about as faithful, spiritually, as anything you’ll find. The film, like the comic, follows Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) right at the point where they start to navigate that weird post-high school, pre-rest of our life space we all experience. Here, though, a character named Seymour — a super-minor guy in the book who’s fleshed out considerably in the flick, where he’s played by Steve Buscemi — becomes something of an obsession for Enid. In our bonus feature segment, we trace the history of comic-book and, by extension, superhero adaptations over time. We walk through how the industry transitioned from these quirky, counter-culture anomalies into the (withering) juggernaut of today. Does GHOST WORLD still matter in 2026.
