One Church of the Nazarene
We are not called to merely try harder in our Christian walk, but to surrender more fully to the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. Drawing from Acts 1:8 and the promise of Pentecost, we discover that Jesus offers us something far beyond moral improvement or self-help principles. He offers supernatural empowerment. The sermon unpacks the beautiful reality that God doesn't just command us to be holy and then leave us to figure it out on our own. Instead, through passages like Philippians 2:13 and Jeremiah 31:31-33, we see that He provides both the desire and the ability to live according to His standards. The Holy Spirit isn't just a comforter or guide, but a purifying fire that burns away what doesn't belong in our lives. This message challenges the modern tendency to glorify our struggles and hide behind grace without expecting transformation. The question isn't whether we'll be perfect, but whether we'll stop identifying ourselves by our failures and start embracing our identity as children of God who have access to genuine spiritual power. Victory over persistent sin isn't found in stronger willpower, but in deeper surrender to the Spirit who already dwells within us.
