Descripción

Impermanence is everywhere—in the things we own, in the people we love, in our thoughts and memories, and even in our very character. In this brief talk, I explore Vigata-paccaya, the Abhidhamma condition of impermanence, and show how reflecting on it can turn suffering into wisdom and lead the mind toward the Deathless. This talk is also part of my ongoing Paṭṭhāna series. For a deeper perspective, I recommend reading my book Paramattha [https://highermindart.info/sdm_downloads/paramattha-abhidhamma-books-2/] or listening to my introductory talks on Abhidhamma: “Basics of Buddhist Philosophy [https://redcircle.com/shows/0faa93e1-47b2-4d3b-93a3-2931596702be/episodes/5ca982dd-2146-4b2b-aa33-a5e944b36c03]” and “Paṭṭhāna – The Grammar of Insight [https://redcircle.com/shows/0faa93e1-47b2-4d3b-93a3-2931596702be/episodes/0b5d8aa5-7472-4523-ba6f-b57fcb568597]”. Rethinking the Abhidhamma: A Modern Approach to Buddhist Philosophy

Welcome back to the podcast. In this episode, I share an untraditional, practical, and highly philosophical introduction to the Abhidhamma.  Too often, this system is treated as a dogmatic, static monument that requires decades of scholastic study, leaving seekers wondering how it actually applies to meditation and daily life. But historically, the Abhidhamma has always been an evolving project—an "unfinished" system meant to be clarified, adjusted, and improved for real-world practice. Drawing on universal perspectives, we break down the grand framework of Buddhist psychology and philosophy into natural principles that any analytical mind can recognize: 1. The Four Ultimates (Paramatthas): We start from the ground up, looking first at our physical physiology (Matter/Rupa) and exploring how it shapes our mental qualities (Cetasika) and moments of consciousness (Citta), before pointing toward the transcendence of individuality (Nibbana). 2. The 24 Patthana Conditions: Reinterpreted not as dry scholastic terminology, but as the "grammar of insight"—the universal, relational principles of nature (such as attraction, repulsion, and analogy). 3. The Five Niyamas: The overarching laws governing physical, organic, mental, and spiritual existence. Whether you are a student of the Abhidhamma, an experienced meditator, or simply a student of philosophy, this talk offers a practical framework to understand your own mind without getting lost in excessive dogmas. --- 📺 PREFER A VISUAL COMPANION? Death and the 3 Stages of Death Contemplation

In this Dhamma talk, Bhikkhu Dhammānanda explores death contemplation (Maraṇānussati)—a fundamental Buddhist practice for awakening to impermanence and living wisely. From the unpredictability of sudden death's (car accidents, tumors, earthquakes) to evidence of afterlife via near-death experiences (NDEs) and past life memories (Ian Stevenson's research), we question: Does life end with the body? Then, practical guidance: The 3 Stages of Death Contemplation Stage 1: Impersonal awareness ("I will die, that's for sure") Stage 2: Personal emotional depth (imagination & scenarios) Stage 3: Transpersonal wisdom (middle way, spiritual response) No need to die for insight—build maturity through meditation. The Four Noble Truths: Suffering and How to Transcend it

In this Dhamma talk, Bhikkhu Dhammānanda explores the Buddha's most fundamental teaching: The Four Noble Truths. Just as an elephant's footprint is large enough to contain the footprints of all other animals, the Four Noble Truths contain all other skillful teachings within Buddhism. The discussion moves beyond the common translation of 'Dukkha' as merely "suffering" to understand it as "imperfection" and "unsatisfactoriness"—a quality that pervades life from birth to death, and even into the nature of consciousness itself. Topics covered in this episode: • The First Truth: Why "Dukkha" encompasses the whole spectrum from subtle imperfection to gross suffering. • The Second Truth: The origin of suffering and the 12 links of Dependent Origination. • The Third Truth: The optimistic reality that suffering can end (Nirvana). • The Fourth Truth: The Noble Eightfold Path as a practical guide for daily life. • Meditation: How to develop Clarity (Mindfulness) and Samadhi (Stillness). Meditation on the Four Elements - A Practical Guide

Meditation on the four elements — A Practical Guide. In this talk you’ll learn practical steps for meditation: setting a quiet space, reciting the element names, perceiving elemental qualities in everyday experience, and body‑scanning techniques to develop insight and inspiration. This talk explains how each element can reveal deeper capacities — earth for confidence and firmness, water for empathy and depth, fire for inner light and vision, and air for lightness and subtle energy (prāna/chakras). If you’ve practiced ānāpāna and want a complementary method, this guide helps you stay with what works while exploring new insights.
