Post-election blues
TANK GIRL (1995): the post-apocalyptic manic pixie anarchist 🧨⛓️💥
"Listen up, cause I'm only telling you this once. I'm not a bedtime story lady, so pay attention. It's 2033. The world is *screwed* now. You see, a while ago this humongous comet came crashing into the earth. Bam, total devastation. End of the world as we know it. No celebrities, no cable TV, no water. It hasn't rained in 11 years. Now 20 people gotta squeeze inside the same bathtub... so it ain't all bad."
Bassnectar stans reported @musicindustrywatchdog into oblivion
RIP @musicindustrywatchdog / @ragegirlspodcast. They said we violated Community Guidelines, but didn't say how. We've got some ideas... in other news, Caeli stumbled on a humanitarian crisis in a NYC park. Kelly taught her dad about pronouns. We love "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans" and @BookMoreWomen on IG. We hate that music festival lineups for this summer are *still* almost entirely male-dominated. Follow our new IG!!! ---> @ragegirlspod
TikTok famous "conscious" rappers and the ultimate spiritual bypassing
Shanin Blake is known for her unapologetic cultural appropriation of (and profiteering off) a traditional Hawaiian practice. Shanin and her boyfriend Layup of @whutzgud were part of a group that flew to Maui on August 8th, the same day devastating wildfires started killing over 100 people and destroying thousands of homes. Tourists were asked to leave. Opal (@itsopal.wav), a bass music producer/DJ born and raised on Maui, was friends with the group. They told her they were leaving Maui the next day. Over the next few days, they didn’t realize their location was still shared with Opal. Despite saying they were leaving the next day, they stayed on Maui for three more days. They posted a story claiming they’d left “right away.” Opal posted screenshots of their location, proving that wasn't true. They responded by claiming she was spreading misinformation (with no further explanation). After we shared Opal's posts on @musicindustrywatchdog, Layup posted a “diss track.” In our new episode of @ragegirlspod, Opal discusses the impact of their actions.
"Uptown Girls" 20 years later: a criminally underrated feminist classic
Featuring some positively delightful clips from Brittany Murphy's interview in the behind-the-scenes DVD feature! Digressions include a "Clueless" fan theory.
