From the John Locke’s revolutionary ideas about property and labor to the rise of the useable steam engine and the first cotton mills, we trace the economic, legal, and moral shifts that made the Industrial Revolution inevitable.  Along the way, we meet the people who lived through it: the weavers, their families, the improvers, the surgeons and inventors—and ask the hard questions: Is modern medicine worth climate change? Is progress worth the price we pay? And can we make dreams come true without creating nightmares along the way? A story of ambition, ingenuity, and the first steps into a world defined by energy, machines, and limitless possibility.
