Ep 07 - March Madness Mini Episode

Since 1939, the nation's top 64 college basketball teams have competed in a legendary tournament full of giant upsets, historic moments, and insane games, otherwise known as March Madness. In this episode, we return from our hiatus to talk about one of the best sporting events in history - March Madness! In today's episode I'm joined by guest Skyler Hege to discuss March Madness and the lore of the classic underdog/Cinderella story. As of this recording, #1 seed Purdue had just been knocked out of the tournament by Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), joining Virginia in being the only two #1 seeds in tournament history to be knocked off in the first round.

Ep 06 - A Review So Far

It’s been a wild ride on Rewind the Play. We’ve jumped from sport to sport and decade to decade in our attempt to better understand some of the most famous and impactful moments in sports.  In today’s episode we are joined by guest Skyler Hege, a junior at Clemson University and an avid sports fan. Skyler and I will be sharing our perspectives from a Gen-Z standpoint and discussing our memories of these sports events. We’ll be reviewing the stories the podcast has covered so far and discussing how these different stories were told by the media. We’ll be exploring what actually makes a great sports story and how the way that these stories are told matter.

Ep 05 - Nadal v. Federer– An Epic Rivalry

Rivals are rivals for good reason. Rivalries are bitter, as teams and players competitively seek to assert their superiority over the other. In rivalries, good sportsmanship and respect goes out the window.  Since the early 2000s, Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer and Spanish professional tennis players Rafael Nadal have dominated men’s tennis. Not surprisingly, the two players were considered the best in the world and often competed against each other. These meetings soon became an epic rivalry, considered one of the great rivalries in sports and tennis history. But this rivalry is unique as it is unlike many others. Federer and Nadal have built a friendship and bond over their love of tennis and through their intense rivalry.  In today’s episode of Rewind the Play, we’ll explore Federer and Nadal’s careers, how their rivalry formed, and how mutual respect turned two foes into friends.

In the early 2000s, you couldn’t walk by a newspaper or magazine stand without seeing Tiger Woods' face on it. But his features in the media weren’t usually about his legendary feats as a golfer, but his constant turmoil in his personal life.  From sex scandals to car crashes to DUIs, Tiger made a name for himself on the tabloids. Was this the same golfer who won major golf championships in his teens? The same golfer who was named the PGA Rookie of the Year? The same golder who consistently shattered records and was the youngest golfer to achieve the career grand slam? In this episode of Rewind the Play, we’ll break down Tiger’s backstory, his fall from grace, and his story of how he rose from the ashes and how he proved to the world he was still the greatest golfer of all time.
