Descripción

In this episode, I cover Matthew 3:4-4:11. Jesus begins His ministry by taking our sins onto Himself, being consecrated by God the Father and God the Spirit, and then being driven into the wilderness by the Spirit to face temptations by the devil. He faithfully resists the temptations in the wilderness as the Perfect Israel and sets out on His journey to the cross and resurrection. This episode, like the others, begins as a live event on Facebook. So, you hear me responding to folks who shared comments during the study. The Bible: How We Got It, Why We Can Trust It

In this special episode of the podcast, I present a quick overview on how the Bible came into being and why we can trust it as God’s Word for us. I’ve been thinking about doing a presentation like this for a long time, but never got around to it. Then the elders at Living Water Lutheran Church in Centerville, Ohio, asked me to give what they’re calling a Jed Talk during the Sunday School hour. I chose this topic, then prayed—a lot—and prepared. If you’re interested in learning more on this topic, I suggest two books:Why Should I Trust the Bible by A. Trevor SuttonHow We Got the Bible by Timothy Paul Jones I hope you find the slide presentation here helpful. This one was recorded on the evening of June 17, 2026.The “interlinear tools” to which I refer are the direct, word-for-word renderings of the texts from the original language. (The New Testament was written in Greek. The Old Testament was written mostly in Hebrew, with some texts in Aramaic.)
