Twilight receives a lot of criticism. Romance novels and love triangles, which teenage girls tend to enjoy, are treated as cringe. The problematic but fantastical (& impossible to recreate irl) age gap gets framed as dangerous messaging. While another massively popular series filled with incest and nonconsensual sex earned mainstream fame without the same scrutiny. But unlike many other fantasy bestsellers, Twilight was written by a woman, marketed to young women, and it became a punchline. We don't have to personally love it, but let's not yuck anyone's yum.
