Surf Report Tampa Florida
Good morning everyone, and welcome to your Thursday surf zone forecast for West Central and Southwest Florida, brought to you by the National Weather Service Tampa Bay. Let's dive right in. If you're thinking about heading to the water today, here's what you need to know. We're looking at tiny waves across the board, just one foot or less, so don't expect any serious swell action. But hey, that just means the water's going to be nice and calm for whatever water activity you've got planned. Starting up north along the Nature Coast beaches from Cedar Key down through Port Richey, we're expecting sunny skies with just a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The water temperature is holding steady in the lower eighties, and with those southeast winds shifting to the southwest this afternoon at just five miles per hour, it's going to feel absolutely gorgeous out there. Now here's something important: the UV index is extreme today, so make absolutely sure you're getting that sunscreen on. Trust me, your skin will thank you later. Rip current risk stays low, but remember, even in low risk conditions, those tricky currents can still pop up near groins, jetties, reefs, and piers, so keep your eyes open. Moving down to the Clearwater Beach and Siesta Key area, we're looking at similar conditions, though the thunderstorm potential bumps up to moderate. That means there's a better chance of seeing some afternoon pop-up storms, but nothing severe. Temperatures are heading toward the upper eighties, and again, that extreme UV index is in play. The same low rip current risk applies here too. Heading further south to the Southwest Florida beaches like Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers Beach, we're mostly sunny today with just a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The water stays in the lower eighties, and those east winds will shift southerly as we move through the afternoon. Friday though, that's when things get a bit more interesting down here. We're expecting a moderate thunderstorm potential, so keep an eye on the forecast if you're planning a beach day tomorrow. Tonight across all our zones, things really settle down. We're looking at mostly clear skies, calm winds around five miles per hour, and lows around eighty or just in the upper seventies depending on where you are. Zero thunderstorm potential, so it's going to be a beautiful evening for a beach walk. Now looking ahead to Friday, we're keeping that sunny, calm pattern going. Rip currents stay low, surf height remains at one foot or less, and high temperatures will be in the upper eighties. Winds will be light and variable, becoming west around ten miles per hour in the afternoon. The only exception is down in Charlotte and Lee County beaches where moderate thunderstorm potential returns Friday afternoon. Bottom line: today and tomorrow are shaping up to be absolutely beautiful beach days. Calm waters, sunny skies, and warm temperatures. Just remember that sunscreen and be weather aware for those afternoon thunderstorms, especially down south on Friday. Now get out there and enjoy those Florida beaches!
