"The Yellow Wallpaper" is a short story by American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in The New England Magazine. The story's (unreliable) narrator -- a young woman who suffers from a "temporary nervous depression" -- is confined to a room where she is effected by the patterned, sickly coloured yellow wall-paper. "The Monkey's Paw" is a supernatural short story by author W. W. Jacobs, first published in England in the collection The Lady of the Barge in 1902. In the story, three wishes are granted to the owner of The Monkey's Paw, but the wishes come with an enormous price for interfering with fate. "The Tell-Tale Heart" is a short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1843. It is related by an unnamed narrator who endeavors to convince the reader of the narrator's sanity while simultaneously describing a murder the narrator committed. "The Ash-tree" is a ghost story by British writer M.R. James included in his 1904 collection Ghost Stories of Antiquary.The ancestral home of Castringham Hall, and the Fell family line, is seemingly cursed, haunted, by the happenings of a witch trial, long ago. "The Outsider" is a short story by the American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written between March and August 1921, it was published in Weird Tales in April 1926.
