10) GLP-1 Files Part 1: What Are GLP-1 Medications, Really? A Neutral, Holistic Introduction

In this episode we cover: * A brief history of GLP-1 medications, from their origins in diabetes care in the 2000s to their more recent rise in the weight management space * How GLP-1 actually works in the body, explained in plain English, and why it affects both blood sugar and appetite * Why this class of medication has become such a significant (and sometimes polarising) part of the conversation around type 2 diabetes right now * A holistic look at how GLP-1s interact with everyday life, including eating patterns, sleep, and movement, without getting into the nutrition detail (that's coming in a future episode) Work With Naina If you're ready to improve your blood sugar while also healing your relationship with food, there are a few ways we can work together. 1:1 Coaching – The Blood Sugar for Freedom Method My signature coaching program is designed to help you stabilise blood sugars, reduce cravings and energy crashes, and step out of the cycle of restriction and burnout with food. → Apply to work with me https://form.typeform.com/to/akG6iaqh [https://form.typeform.com/to/akG6iaqh] Single Nutrition Sessions If you prefer a one-off consultation, you can book a standalone session where we focus on your specific challenges with blood sugar, food, and eating patterns. → Apply to work with me https://form.typeform.com/to/akG6iaqh [https://form.typeform.com/to/akG6iaqh] Connect With Me Website: www.nainavarma.com [http://www.nainavarma.com] Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/naina.varmaa [https://www.instagram.com/naina.varmaa] Email: hello@nainavarma.com [hello@nainavarma.com] Subscribe, review & share If you enjoyed this episode, make sure you subscribe so you never miss a new one. episode 9) It's Not a Willpower Problem: Low Carb, Keto, and Your Blood Sugar - The Full Picture artwork

9) It's Not a Willpower Problem: Low Carb, Keto, and Your Blood Sugar - The Full Picture

In this episode we cover: * Low carb and ketogenic diets are not the same thing, breaking down exactly what each approach involves nutritionally, including what you're eating, what you're missing, and why the quality of your food within any pattern still matters enormously. * The science on low carb and blood sugar is real but incomplete — yes, research shows it can lower blood glucose and HbA1c in the short to medium term, but the longer-term picture is more nuanced and adherence is the biggest factor most studies don't talk about. * Restriction affects your psychology, not just your plate — we unpack why the all-or-nothing thinking that often follows strict dietary approaches is not a character flaw but a completely normal response to deprivation, and what that means for whether this approach is right for you. * Food is social, cultural, and emotional — the hidden cost of a highly restrictive diet is what it does to your relationships, your social life, and your connection to food as identity and belonging, especially for women. * The best dietary approach for your blood sugar is the one you can actually live with — I share the three honest questions worth asking yourself before starting any restrictive plan, and what a flexible, personalised alternative looks like. episode 8) What Is Insulin Resistance — And How Does It Relate to Diabetes? artwork

8) What Is Insulin Resistance — And How Does It Relate to Diabetes?

In this episode, we cover * Insulin resistance is one of the most common and underexplained metabolic conditions affecting women today, yet many women are living with it without knowing, experiencing symptoms like fatigue, afternoon energy crashes, brain fog, irregular cycles, and blood sugar swings. * Insulin is a vital hormone produced by the pancreas that acts like a key to unlock your cells so glucose can enter and be used for energy. When resistance develops, those locks become stiff, forcing your pancreas to pump out more and more insulin just to keep blood sugar stable. * Insulin resistance does not develop from personal failure. It is driven by a combination of factors including excess body fat (particularly around the abdomen), chronic stress, poor sleep, physical inactivity, certain medications, hormonal changes across the menstrual cycle, and emerging research around gut health and meal timing. * Women face unique risks because of how oestrogen, progesterone, and cortisol interact with insulin sensitivity across different life stages, making conditions like PCOS, gestational diabetes, and perimenopause particularly connected to insulin resistance. * Insulin resistance is progressive but not inevitable. The earlier you understand what is happening in your body and take action, the more capacity your pancreas has to respond, making education and personalised support a critical first step.
