Descripción

Late Last year Dom Mariani released his second solo record called Apple of Life.   Dom was the driving force behind 80’s garage rock band The Stems with songs like Sad Girl and At First Sight and later in the 90’s he formed DM3, you might remember power pop tracks like, Foolish and 1 Time, 2 Times Devastated and Melt Away from The Someloves before that.   If you can remember any of those tracks and I’m sure you can, Dom Mariani’s  latest album Apple of Life will be a rewarding listen.   And keep an ear out for a tour and new album from The Stems later in 2026.   Check out the link in the comments for our chat about Dom Mariani’s latest solo album, Apple of Life, The Stems and even a bit of Creedence Clearwater Revival, hint: which version of I heard it Through the Grapevine did you hear first, Marvin Gaye’s or CCR’s?

Grumpy Episode 3 with Francis Leach, Robbie Buck and Costa Zouliou

G’day Folks. Wanna know what three grumpy old blokes have been listening to over the last couple of weeks? Not just any old grumps, this lot are legends in their own Grumpy Jukebox. Francis Leach, Robbie Buck and myself have decided to have a yack about new music. Robbie takes us to the world of funk with FAM - Disco Blaxploitation, Francis drops a Dick Move and I’m pretty happy with the new record from Jack White.   Plus we veer off into World Cup Football, Pachichi (me either, you’ll have to listen to find out), the majesty of Kakadu, Crocs, Artificial Intelligence, Clive Palmer (he’s back), Bill Shorten (Robbie had a beer with him) and UFC White House Styleee (a red white and blue disgrace)   Check the-breakdown.net [http://the-breakdown.net] for Grumpy Jukebox Ep 3.   Also available chats with Lontano, Buzz Bidstrup (The Angels), Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil, The Family Dog), William Crighton, Dom Mariani (The Stems, DM3, Datura 4) and a preview of the Necrosonic Festival with Kent Haines and Chris Rand (Segression).

the-breakdown.net - Lontano album launch with Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo

Lontano is an Italian term meaning "far away". It's also the name of a long-distance collaboration between songwriters Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo, who share Italian-Australian heritage and a love of spacious, earthy, alt-country storytelling. Lontano's approach melds different perspectives to unearth surprising new musical narratives, not completely autobiographical, but not fictional either - and always tethered to a shared insight about the physics of the human condition. And it's proving to be a highly productive partnership, with two successful albums and an unexpected recent QMA win under their belt. On this episode of The Breakdown, ahead of the launch of Lontano's third album 'Love without hard lines' (June 20 at The Cave Inn), I catch up with Anthony and Roz, to find out how it all began, how it works, and what the future holds...
