Descripción

What actually creates momentum in a video production business? Why do some people take coaching, ideas, and strategies and genuinely run with them… while others stay stuck in the same patterns for years? On this episode, I continue my conversation with coaching client Nic Mongillo from Toronto, Canada. Last week we spoke about the practical side of growing a video business: systems, team, structure, leadership, and moving beyond being a solo operator. This week we go deeper into the mindset and behavioural side of growth. We unpack some of the qualities that have helped Nic build momentum over the past year, including: • Being genuinely coachable • Taking feedback without defensiveness • Staying consistent even when motivation drops • Learning to handle discomfort and uncertainty • Embracing repetition and the long game • Taking ideas and adapting them into your own style • Building self-trust through action • Moving from consuming information to implementing it One of the things I respect most about Nic is that he didn’t try to copy me or become a clone of my approach. He used the coaching and frameworks as a foundation, then built his own way of communicating, selling, leading, and running his business. This episode is really about the gap between knowing and doing. And how growth often comes from repeatedly leaning into situations that feel uncomfortable until they eventually become normal. If you’re trying to grow your production company, improve your sales process, become more disciplined, or simply develop more resilience as a business owner, I think there’s a lot in this conversation that will resonate. How to Build Your Sales & Marketing Muscle

Feast or famine is one of the most common cycles experienced by video production business owners. You get busy, marketing stops, the project ends, and suddenly there’s nothing else in the pipeline. But is a lack of time really what causes this pattern? In this episode of The Business of Video Production Podcast, I explore why sales and marketing often stop as soon as work arrives, how panic-driven marketing keeps you trapped in the cycle, and the difference between running a hunter-style and farmer-style business. You’ll learn how to build your sales and marketing muscle through small, consistent habits that can lead to a more reliable pipeline and less uncertainty in your business. Revision: The Video Production Framework

How do you decide what to work on in your video production business? Do you have a system for identifying which areas need attention? Do you go on instinct? Or do you get so caught up in writing quotes, preparing for shoots, filming and editing that working on the business keeps getting pushed aside? In this early episode of the podcast, I share a framework that helped me step back and see all the moving parts of my production company. It gives you a bird’s-eye view of the business, makes it easier to see where the gaps are and breaks the work into smaller, more manageable areas. So let’s take a step back from the day-to-day and look at the big picture. Download the framework at ryanspanger.com/framework [How do you decide what to work on in your video production business? episode How to Get More Work from Past Clients artwork

How to Get More Work from Past Clients

One of the easiest ways to generate more work in your video production business isn’t by finding new clients. It’s by reconnecting with the people who already know you, trust you, and have hired you before. In this episode, I explore why so many great client relationships quietly fade away, not because anything went wrong, but because everyone gets busy. I share practical ways to reconnect that feel genuine rather than salesy, along with simple systems you can use to make staying in touch a consistent part of your business. You’ll learn: • Why past clients are often your best source of future work • How to reconnect without feeling awkward or pushy • Simple ways to stay top of mind all year round • The difference between nurturing relationships and selling • Why a simple spreadsheet can sometimes outperform a CRM • The outreach framework I teach inside my coaching program If you’re looking for a practical way to generate more work without constantly chasing new leads, this episode will give you a simple strategy you can start using straight away. The Inner Game of Running a Video Production Business

Running a successful video production business isn’t just about strategy, marketing and sales. Much of it comes down to mindset. In this episode, I explore the psychological side of running a business and share some of the personal philosophies that have shaped the way I’ve approached work and life over the past 20 years. These are the ideas I come back to when things get difficult, the principles that help me stay focused, and the framework I’ve developed for navigating the ups and downs of business. episode What to Do When Your Video Business Feels Stuck artwork

What to Do When Your Video Business Feels Stuck

Have you ever felt like your business has stopped moving forward? You’re still working. You’re still getting projects. But the growth, excitement and momentum that used to be there feels harder to find. In this episode, I sit down with one of my coaching clients to talk about what happened when he found himself in exactly that position. After years of running a successful video production business, he felt stuck. The business wasn’t going backwards, but it wasn’t really moving forwards either. We talk about burnout, rebuilding confidence, finding a clearer direction, attracting better projects and creating momentum again. Most importantly, we explore what it takes to move from feeling like your best years are behind you to believing that your biggest opportunities may still be ahead. If you’ve been feeling a bit stuck in your business lately, I think you’ll relate to this conversation.
