41-100 Coaching Mistakes You Can Avoid #2-Weak Coaching

In this episode Cal continues Thomas Leonard's list of 100 Coaching Mistakes You Can Avoid.   1. Passively coaching and responding during the coaching sessions instead of asking for more (much more) from the client 2. Focusing on tactical matters or details when strategic coaching is needed, and vice-versa 3. Being too nice/patient to the point that you are not saying what needs to be said 4. Slipping into the role of motivator or cattle prod of your clients, instead of being their collaborative partner 5. Working too hard to make your clients successful instead of inspiring/challenging your client to do that for themselves 6. Not setting specific enough goals or focusing enough on performance (unless client wants a discovery-type focus) 7. Not directly and immediately addressing the client's personality problems, communication flaws, bad attitude or resistance 8. Not knowing or asking the right question(s) 9. Accepting what the client says at face value, without clarifying or asking for evidence 10. Coaching clients as if they are all the same. 40-Mentoring With Someone from a Different Training School or Background

This week Cal discusses the advantages of doing at least part of your mentor coaching with someone from a different coach training school or different background.  As he states, this is not necessarily a shameless plug (althought it might partly be that), but there are distinct advantages to doing part of your mentor coaching with someone from out of your stream.  The ICF Ethics Watercooler: https://coachingfederation.org/blog/ethics-water-cooler-conversation [https://coachingfederation.org/blog/ethics-water-cooler-conversation].
