Descripción

In Sweet Voices, a True Tale from The Shack, we return (from our previous episode) to wartime Silvertown — a place where the Tate & Lyle Sugar Refinery towered over the streets, and where the first ghostly voices were heard after one of its warehouses was bombed. Through the story of Jess, an ARP warden walking nightly through smoke, rubble, and loss, we explore how the chaos of WWII thinned the veil between the living and the dead. Jess’s heightened psychic sensitivity allowed her to hear the sweet voices of those who didn’t survive the blast — voices seeking acknowledgment, comfort, and release. This episode explores * Jess’s role as an ARP warden in 1940s East London * Her encounters with spirits and apparitions near the refinery * How destruction sharpened her psychic abilities * The Thin Veil Theory during wartime * The Spirit Acknowledgment Model and the power of listening Takeaways: * War leaves echoes that linger in the spirit world. * Listening and acknowledgment can bring peace to spirits. * The line between the living and the dead is thinner during times of chaos * Keywords: ghost stories, wartime London, Tate & Lyle refinery, spirits, psychic phenomena, WWII history, hauntings, London ghosts, supernatural encounters, ARP wardens, Silvertown explosion   If you enjoy atmospheric, history‑rooted ghost stories, please follow The Freakin' Shack and share 'Jess - Sugar, Sirens & Sweet Voices', with someone who loves a haunting grounded in truth.  Join Our Shack Pack & help our community Grow: * Follow Us * Rate Us * Find us on social media.. episode OH HELL NO! artwork

OH HELL NO!

This week we dive into a chilling true story sent in & credited to: ‘Gary D up in Ontario, Canada’. Back in the late 1980s, Gary re-tells his own story from when he was a young salesman driving through rural Virginia in the dead of night when he stumbled upon a run down, eerie gas station that felt frozen in time. Inside: a fierce old woman, a filthy restroom… and something that really should not have been there. His reaction was instant and unforgettable: “HELL NO!” What followed was a frantic escape, a confrontation and a nightmare of a night he’s never forgotten. Was it exhaustion? A glitch? Something paranormal? Or something far stranger? Following the story, we unpack a bit of Gary’s experience, ask the questions he couldn’t, and invite you—our listeners—to weigh in on what might really have been happening in that creepy Virginia gas station Story credited to; ‘Gary D up in Ontario Canada’  Gary D Link: https://www.instagram.com/gary_d_up_in_ontario_canada?utm_source=qr  [https://www.instagram.com/gary_d_up_in_ontario_canada?utm_source=qr]   How You Can Help Us Grow * Subscribe/ or follow us on  YouTube/Podcast — it helps more than you think * Leave a rating or review on your podcast app * Share this episode with someone who loves true tales and strange encounters * Send us your own story — we might feature it next * shackpackinbox@gmail,com [shackpackinbox@gmail,com] * Join our social media community and discuss theories with other listeners Your support keeps these stories alive and helps us bring more real life mysteries to the show. key words: true scary story, real paranormal encounter, creepy gas station story, 1980s road trip horror, strange true tales, mysterious encounter, listener story submission, supernatural podcast episode, unexplained events, creepy true story

The Hidden Rules of Fairies - What Folklore Tells Us

⚠️ Content Warning: This episode includes discussion of historical folklore involving child harm, including references to changelings and child abuse. This week, we step into the unsettling world of fairies—the version folklore tried to warn us about. These aren’t tiny, friendly creatures. In Celtic and Irish folklore, the Fae are powerful, rule-bound beings who can charm, trick, or harm those who cross their path. We explore the hidden rules of fairies, from why you should never enter a fairy ring or eat fairy food, to the chilling history of changelings and the strange protection offered by iron. Along the way, we uncover how fairy lore shaped real lives—and real fears—across European traditions, including Breton tales of the Corrigans.
