episode Exercise, Perimenopause & Why Lifestyle Medicine Matters artwork

Exercise, Perimenopause & Why Lifestyle Medicine Matters

Today's guest brings a really unique perspective to the menopause conversation because she represents the next generation of doctors and researchers who are helping to shape the future of women's health. Joining me today is Ashima Elsa Philip, a final-year medical student currently living in Mauritius. Alongside her medical studies, Ashima developed an interest in medical research during her second year of medical school. What began as a research poster presentation on exercise and perimenopausal symptoms quickly evolved into a larger project, ultimately resulting in a published systematic review exploring the impact of exercise on perimenopausal syndrome. What I find particularly inspiring is that Ashima undertook this work while still early in her medical training. At a stage when many healthcare professionals receive very little exposure to menopause care, she chose to explore a topic that affects millions of women worldwide. Today we're going to talk about her research, what she learned about the role of exercise in supporting women during perimenopause, how this project has shaped her perspective on women's health, and why menopause education is something future doctors need greater exposure to. You can read the full research article here: Impact of Exercise on Perimenopausal Syndrome: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials [https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12008710/] You can connect with Ash on LinkedIn Ashima Elsa Philip [https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashima-elsa-philip-a063252b7/]Instagram @irselsa_ash [https://www.instagram.com/itselsa_ash/] And if you are interested in finding out more about working with me through Perimenopause Reset follow this LINK [https://clio-austin-d5e8.mykajabi.com/perimenopause-reset] to learn more.

episode International Women's Day 2026 artwork

International Women's Day 2026

A little different from my usual menopause content... Earlier this year, I had the privilege of speaking on a panel at a major Brisbane organisation's International Women's Day 2026 event. In this short snippet, I share why I am so passionate about improving healthcare outcomes for women, advocating for better support in the workplace, and challenging some of the long-standing gaps that continue to exist in women's health research and education. I also share the story of the woman who inspired me from a young age, my grandmother, Clio- a courageous and resilient woman whose strength, determination, and willingness to stand up for what mattered helped shape the person I am today. As an Exercise Physiologist specialising in perimenopause and menopause, these conversations are about far more than symptoms. They are about ensuring women have access to the knowledge, support, and healthcare they deserve throughout every stage of life. I hope you enjoy this small glimpse into a topic that means so much to me. 💜 You can connect with me here: Instagram @menopause_exercisephys [https://www.instagram.com/menopause_exercisephys/] LinkedIn @clioaustin [https://www.linkedin.com/in/clio-austin-891a1719b/] Learn more about working with me inside The Perimenopause Reset [https://clio-austin-d5e8.mykajabi.com/perimenopause-reset]

The Menopause Identity Crisis No One Talks About

Today’s episode is such an honest and important conversation about the emotional side of menopause- the identity shifts, mental load, and struggles so many women experience but rarely discuss openly. Joining me in this episode is Wendy Naumovski, a hair and makeup artist of over 30 years, salon owner, author of Wendy Talks Menopause. After decades of listening to women share their struggles from behind the salon chair, Wendy personally experienced menopause in a way that completely changed her life and understanding of women’s health. Today, we’re talking about: * the emotional impact of menopause * feeling like you lose yourself during midlife * why so many women feel unsupported * and how women can begin rebuilding confidence and identity again You can connect with Wendy on Instagram @wendy_the_brand [https://www.instagram.com/wendy_the_brand/] and you can find her book here: Wendy Talks Menopause [https://www.amazon.com.au/Wendy-Talks-Menopause-Learned-Thrive-ebook/dp/B0GQKJF4JC?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQPOTM2NjE5NzQzMzkyNDU5AAGn8CmBi0KMAKnmgP-byUUCrthj3OkCP2EK0Mvjt6g3ZU3Ln7IawJNaZzUzupg_aem_YWdncwBywsmNpPnchytZSzyvwmCP&brid=YWdncwGKdhxCTfxRgGQJuXwfzhuN]

episode The Midlife Health Trifecta artwork

The Midlife Health Trifecta

In this solo episode of The Healthy Menopause Podcast, I break down why menopause is far more than a conversation about symptoms, and why it should be viewed as a critical health intervention point for women. I introduce my Midlife Health Trifecta framework, exploring the three key systems most impacted during menopause: ✔️ Muscle ✔️ Bone ✔️ Metabolic health Drawing on the latest evidence in menopause physiology and exercise science, this episode unpacks: * why women become more vulnerable to muscle decline and frailty during midlife * the silent impact menopause can have on bone density and osteoporosis risk * how hormonal changes influence metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, and body composition * and why resistance training and targeted exercise are some of the most powerful tools women have to support long-term health This episode is a powerful reminder that menopause is not the beginning of decline, it’s an opportunity to intervene, build strength, and protect future health.
