The Ladder Homilies
Why is it often easier to appear peaceful in public than to live as peacemakers at home? In this homily, Fr. Abey reflects on Christ's words, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God,” and challenges us to examine whether we bring peace or conflict into our relationships. Drawing from the Gospel, practical examples from family life, and a story from Saint Anthony the Great, this message explores the qualities of true peacemakers: patience, humility, listening, and a willingness to be corrected. It also exposes the habits that destroy peace—pride, judgment, uncontrolled emotions, and holding grudges. As the Church journeys through the Apostles' Fast, we are reminded that receiving God's peace begins with becoming instruments of peace ourselves. True spiritual growth is not measured merely by attendance at church or participation in the sacraments, but by the transformation of our relationships with others. Before we can share the Gospel with the world, we must first bring the peace of Christ into our homes, our communities, and our hearts.
