Hunter Jr. didn't walk into the outdoor industry to make a statement — he walked in to build a business. After nearly a decade at Nokia and years running international sourcing operations across Asia and South America, he stepped into the RV space in 2015 with zero camping experience and, by his own description, a Gucci wardrobe. What he found was a $114 billion industry he'd never heard of — and one of the few spaces in his entire career where he was, by almost every account, the only Black executive in the room. He didn't see a social problem. He saw a business crisis. So he did what he's always done: invested in the data. Over $1.2 million of his own capital later, Earl had the research to back what he already suspected — and built The Unity Folks, an award-winning consulting and strategy firm now partnered with some of the largest parks systems, RV dealerships, and outdoor brands in the country, including California State Parks, the largest state park system in America. In this conversation, Coy sits down with Earl to unpack what it actually takes to challenge an entire industry from the inside — the data, the discipline, the doors that closed, what generational fear really means for a sales strategy, and why Earl has already reserved space on The Unity Folks website for the Nobel Peace Prize.  🔑 Key Topics * From Nokia to the outdoors — 11 years in mobile phones, international sourcing across Asia and South America, and how Earl ended up as a VP in an industry he knew absolutely nothing about * The business crisis, not the social problem — What Earl actually saw when he became one of the only Black executives in a $114 billion RV industry — and why his first instinct was revenue, not representation * The $1.2 million data investment — Why opinions aren't enough, what the research actually revealed, and how you walk into a billion-dollar industry and ask them to change * The three real barriers — Generational fear, lack of knowledge, and lack of invitation — and why income and urban residency aren't actually the issue * 86% and what it means for outdoor retail — The data point on how children are introduced to the outdoors by their parents and why it's the most important number in the industry's long-term strategy * Growing Silver Sport from under $1M to $22.5M in four years — The relationship-first sales philosophy that drove one of the most dramatic growth stories in outdoor RV history — and 340,000 miles to prove it * The Unity Folks business model — Why Earl built a for-profit consulting firm instead of a nonprofit, never accepted a single donation, and what that independence actually makes possible * Calling in, not calling out — The philosophy behind every training, keynote, and partnership the company has ever built — and why it works when everything else hasn't * Training 15,000 people — What the shift that actually has to happen in a person before they can genuinely welcome someone who doesn't look like them * Oboz footwear co-branding deal — How the Unity Blaze ended up on over 100,000 insoles and what a real partnership looks like after years of watching everyone else pander * Brand evolution: Black Folks Camp Too → The Unity Folks — What the data and the market said about expanding to every demographic, every family — and owning "All Folks Can Too" while they were at it * The 90% stat — Why the vast majority of Black Folks Camp Too merchandise was purchased by white customers, and what that says about invitation and belonging * Kodak, Cracker Barrel, and halftime — What it looks like when an industry runs the same playbook into the third quarter — and the specific shifts the outdoor industry has to make before it's too late * California State Parks — The announcement Earl made live on this show about partnering with the largest state park system in America * Faith, baptism, and leading from conviction — Why Earl got rebaptized as an adult, what it changed about how he leads, and why his daughter started her own company at 13 using his exact framework * The five-year exit plan — Selling the company by 55, what the second half of life looks like, and what Earl told himself he'd say when he looked back on this conversation * The Nobel Peace Prize — Why it's already on the website, what Earl says to people who call it arrogant, and why saying it out loud is the point  ⏱ Timestamps 1. From Near-Fatal to Non-Negotiable: Unveiling the Hidden Power of Vulnerability and High Performance Coaching with Chad Weller

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2563564/fan_mail/new] Episode Description What happens when the life you built around your identity collapses — and you have to choose whether to survive it? In this episode, Coy sits down with Chad Weller, a high-performance life coach, former professional athlete, keynote speaker, and 17 years sober. Chad's path ran through South Beach nightlife, 22 addictions, four suicide attempts, a near-fatal car accident, and a year of prison looming over him — before he chose differently. Today he wakes at 3:30 AM every day, has run ultra marathons across multiple countries, and coaches CEOs, entrepreneurs, doctors, and lawyers on building internal architecture that doesn't collapse under pressure. This conversation goes deep into identity, the discipline of self-love, inner child work, and what it actually looks like to build a life from the inside out.  Key Points * Guest's Journey: From Columbus, Ohio basketball player to modeling in Milan and New York, to South Beach nightlife and addiction, to a near-fatal 2009 car accident, to 17 years of sobriety and becoming one of the top high-performance life coaches in the country * The Identity Thread: How the loss of an athletic identity created a void that addiction, modeling, and nightlife temporarily filled — and how doing the internal work finally resolved it * 3:30 AM and the Non-Negotiables: How Chad's morning routine — built over eight years — functions as the daily anchor that replaced the old pattern of escape, and why he treats every day like training for a competition * Coaching Methodology: The foundational work (habits, routines) that precedes the deeper work (inner child, emotional stability, nervous system recalibration), and why no two client engagements look alike * Why High Performers Break: The most common fracture Chad finds beneath successful entrepreneurs and executives — prioritizing everyone and everything above themselves until they lose the thread of who they are * Discipline as Self-Love: The core thesis of his forthcoming book — that choosing what's hard is the highest form of self-respect, and that "how you do anything is how you do everything" * Carrying the Message Across Rooms: How the same core truth connects prison audiences and corporate boardrooms, and what it requires of him to find that through-line * Building a Legacy: Certifying coaches under his methodology — not to clone himself, but to empower others to lead from their own authentic experience Timestamps * 00:00 — Podcast introduction and overview of the show's mission * 01:00 — Introducing Chad Weller: athlete, coach, ultra marathoner, 17 years sober * 01:31 — Chad's background: Columbus, Ohio to Beverly Hills, and the life experiences that led to coaching * 03:16 — The athletic identity: basketball, Ohio State, and the first signs of losing direction * 05:56 — Modeling career: from a newspaper coupon section to Milan, New York, and South Beach * 07:36 — South Beach: the nightlife identity, validation, and what was really underneath it * 09:43 — The wall: near-fatal accident, facing a year in prison, and the decision to live * 12:26 — 17 years sober: 6,000 consecutive days and what actually made it possible * 15:39 — Internal architecture: the 3:30 AM practice and why it's non-negotiable * 19:02 — Systems, habits, and eliminating every excuse the night before * 21:12 — Coaching methodology: the foundational work before the deeper work * 24:38 — Why someone who coaches the world's highest performers still has his own coach * 29:29 — The hidden fracture: what Chad finds beneath every high achiever who looks like they have it all * 32:47 — Speaking at prisons and corporate conferences: the thread that holds across both rooms * 35:26 — The book: discipline as the highest form of self-love, and the shift he wants readers to make * 38:35 — Building a team: certifying coaches and keeping the flame authentic * 40:51 — What he now knows about human beings that he couldn't have known before living it * 44:13 — For anyone feeling caged: the first step, and why human connection outperforms information alone * 47:28 — Where to find Chad, connect, and follow the book * 47:58 — "Life is…" — Chad's answer to the show's signature question * 49:36 — Closing reflections Resources & Links * Chad's Website: chadweller.com [https://chadweller.com/] * Self-Discovery Blueprint [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TBFfxP3jwdAHbfLIUHRBdebgfi7JtZkp/view] * Mental Edge Coherence Diagnostic  [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u_q391nsLm0YrXhYJr1nS4c35BNfS0qu/view] * Books That Built the Life  [https://bookshop.org/shop/lifeispod28] Connect with Chad Weller * Instagram  [https://www.instagram.com/chadweller_highperformance/?hl=en] * Phone & Direct Contact: Available through his website * LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/chad-weller/] Connect with Podcast Host  * Email: thisisthelifeispodcast@gmail.com * Wanting to learn more about The Coherence Program and dive deeper?
