The Peer Protests Podcast
On the 8th and 9th of August 2020 elections were held in Belarus. The regime leader Alexandr Lukashenka claimed to have won the vote by a vast majority. Since then, Belarussians have been protesting and fighting for democracy to finally bring down the dictatorship. For this episode, we bring in Smitser and Maxim, two students in exile that participated in the movement, who will give us more details about the situation in their country. *We noticed that the final version had some quality issues, however, we were not able to fix it. We apologize for that and we promise to improve the quality of the following episodes.* We also want to thank Smitser and Maxim for their stories. Further, many thanks to everyone that helped us throughout the process; particularly, Amanda Brouwers, Saliha Metinsoy, and Stijn van Nuland. ---- Timestamps: 00:00 - 02:10 Introduction of the Podcast 02:10 - 03:28 Facts about Belarus 03:28 - 05:50 Ryan Air and Roman Protasevic 05:50 - 07:38 Freedom of Press 07:38 - 14:52 August Election and the following Protests 14:52 - 21:00 Imprisonment of Students 21:00 - 29:43 President Alexander Lukashenka 29:43 - 31:08 Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya 31-08 - 33:37 End of the Episode ---- Music Credit: Apollo Diedre by https://app.sessions.blue/browse/track/41331">Blue Dot Sessions; Please Listen Carefully https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar
