Seek First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness

Text: Matt. 6:19-34 Date: 5/17/2026 Preacher: Tyler Kerley Legendary UCLA Bruins basketball coach John Wooden (also known as "The Wizard of Westwood") once said, "Failure to prepare is preparing to fail." In this passage, our Lord Jesus says something similar - only these are the words of not merely a strong leader, an effective coach, or a wise wizard; these are the words of the Ascended Lord: "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."   In this passage, Jesus cautions us against the dangers of worldliness by teaching us ... 1. To treasure things of an eternal value, 2. To maintain in everything an eternal perspective, and 3. To seek an eternal prosperity.

Beware of Hypocrisy

Beware of Hypocrisy Text: Matt. 6:1-18 Date: 5/10/2026 Preacher: Tyler Kerley The desire to be seen is one of the most fundamental human desire. Whether it is a child saying, “Watch me!” or Sally Field’s famous (though often misquoted) Oscar acceptance speech, “You like me! You really like me!” we all feel the need to be seen. However, this good, natural desire can be corrupted. Jesus calls this corrupted desire hypocrisy. In this passage, Jesus warns us against the dangers of religious hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is dangerous because ... 1. it craves man’s applause,  2. it rejects the Father’s approval, and 3. it misses the Christian’s reward.

Love Your Enemies

Love Your Enemies   Text: Matt. 5:38-48   Date: 5/3/26   Preacher: Tyler Kerley   It's one of the coolest experiences as a parent to see your children begin to imitate you. The word imitation is not explicitly used in Matthew 5:38-48, but the concept it present throughout this text: Jesus says, "Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you." Why? "So that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven." He concludes it, "You therefore must be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect."   So, how are we to imitate God? This text gives three answers. 1. What we are not to do; 2. What we are to do; and 3. What we will one day become.
