The Austin police department has launched an investigation into the death of a man who was found stuffed in a trash can over the weekend as APD says they were called to the area around Packsaddle pass and Ben White on Saturday for a welfare check, and officers arrived on scene and found the man -- identified as 59-year-old duc vo -- who they say was "clearly deceased.” , Two men from Houston are accused of pulling a jewelry store heist in Round Rock after police say Javon Davis and Leslie Lavun Jones were arrested in connection to a robbery at Marc Robinson jewelers at the Round Rock premium outlets back in April as court documents say the two men were part of a group of masked robbers who entered the store and started smashing display cases with hammers before stealing a large amount of high-end jewelry. Georgetown police are again urging residents to lock their vehicles and secure their firearms as they investigate 20 vehicle burglaries that occurred over the weekend across four neighborhoods, including the theft of seven firearms after burglaries took place late at night in the village, Fairhaven, Teravista and Summercrest neighborhoods. Legislation is on the way to regulate collegiate sports spending and transfers as the 'protect college sports act', written by Texas senator Ted Cruz and Washington democrat Maria Cantwell would hand the NCAA an antitrust exemption to enforce a series of rules that have been challenged in court over the past few years, limiting athletes to a one-time transfer without penalty, limit eligibility to 5 years, ban former pro-athletes from playing in college, halt schools from poaching coaches during the season, and granting the NCAA the ability to enforce a spending cap for how much schools can pay their athletes, a proposal from Austin mayor Kirk Watson to pull back some of the city’s commitment to building highway caps over I-35 won’t move forward this week as last year, the city council approved $104-million for what are called vertical "roadway elements", which are structural components needed for about six planned highway coverings of varying sizes, stretching from near the river to north Austin, but none of that money will cover any of the caps themselves, nor any of the amenities that the council wants included. Texas attorney general Ken Paxton is the big winner in the lone star state's bitter republican senate primary battle, which spanned for more than a year and became the most expensive senate primary in history as Paxton, who was endorsed by donald trump just one week ago, convincingly defeated longtime GOP senator John Cornyn in the runoff election for the republican nomination, in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct decades ago, the Austin city council this week has begun discussions over renaming Cesar Chavez street, and some of the proposed names include reverting back to the original "first street," renaming it after another member of the farmworkers movement -- Dolores Huerta, or renaming it after fallen Austin police officer Jorge Pastore, who was killed in the line of duty, and Cedar Park will soon play host to an out-of-this-world effort by NASA as the space agency has announced that Cedar Park-based Firefly Aerospace will build a new craft designed to transport drones to the moon.
