Acerca de Vexed Men

The VeXed Men is a comic book podcast that truly believes comics are for everybody. We love DC and Marvel, sometimes, but there are so many other options out there, and we try and talk about as much as possible. Instead of precapping new releases, we discuss first issues of titles, highlight graphic novels coming out by smaller presses, and go in depth on artists, writers, and runs of titles. We also tackle social issues tied into the current comic climate. Whenever possible, we invite on a guest or two to talk about our weekly subject because while we both enjoy being white guys in our thirties, there are so many other voices and audiences for comics, and their opinions also need to be heard. We might also skew a bit adult sometimes. So if you don't enjoy salty language, this might not be for you.

Volume 2, Issue #5 VeXed Girl & Devil Podcaster

Anthony, Austin, and Adam ponder why Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur isn't as popular as Unbeatable Squirrel Girl or Ms Marvel. The series is hugely funny, well drawn, and, along with Ms Marvel, is one of the few books about The Inhumans that we like. 00:00 - Spider-Man No More Days 03:32 - Anthony missed Locke & Key week 03:58 - Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur is amazing, buy it! 15:26 - Nameless City by Faith Erin Hicks, also awesome. 18:02 - Matt Kindt's "Poppy & The Lost Lagoon is a fun story, but we're divided on the art. 23:34 - Nighthawk is a Marvel story about a Black Batman fighting corrupt cops and White Supremacists. More people should be reading this, 28:04 - This week in DC Rebirth and Marvel Civil War II 40:11 - Star War Force Awakes puts us to sleep 40:48 - Emma Rios's ID, and Richard Tomasso's She-Wolf

Volume 2, Issue #4: Joe Hill Yea

While Anthony is off being a general no-goodnick, Austin and Adam are joined by Scott Woods from Race Against The Machine (http://raceagainstthemachine.podomatic.com/). To celebrate the release of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's "Tales From The Darkside" we dissect their previous collaboration, "Locke & Key". We talk less about plot and more about the social constructs in this series. 05:00 - It's vaguely Lovecraftian. 09:25 - The kids act like kids. Everything has purpose. 13:50 - The art makes us cry in a good way. 17:00 - Disabled children as magical characters. 19:50 - The handling of queer characters in the story. 21:30 - The handling of non-White characters. 27:35 - Sexual violence against women in horror literature and films. which leads us to 29:36 - A tangent on Jessica Jones and adaptations. 35:40 - Tales From The Darkside, DC's Rebirth continues, Marvel's Civil War II continues, plus Year Of Marvels and Vote Loki.

Volume 2, Issue #3 Crossovers That Should Never But Already Do Exist

In celebration of the release of the first issue of Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy, Anthony, Austin, and Adam talk about their favorite and least favorite cross-publisher crossovers. Plus, we tear down DC's new Rebirth, and discuss some less frustrating first issues. 2:00 - We may not fall into the demographic for Lumberjanes & Gotham Academy, but we think it's a very successful crossover, and are glad it exists. 6:55 - Celebrity appearances in comic books almost never work. Except when Muhammad Ali is involved 8:30 - Batman crossovers of varying quality. 9:50 - Marvel Vs DC, and Amalgam Comics, and Superman/Madman by Mike Allred. 22:25 - Our dream crossovers. 24:23 - We really, really aren't enjoying the new DC Rebirth issues. At all. 34:50 - There is a manga version of the first episode of Moffat & Gatiss's "Sherlock". 36:35 - Marvel's Civil War II miniseries. 38:40 - We do not enjoy Howard Chaykin's "Midnight Of The Soul". The art is great, though. 39:42 - We have complicated but positive feelings about the first issue of Merry Men, a queer reimagining of Robin Hood. 41:30 - new collections including No Mercy Volume 2, Flinch Volume 2, Heroes Vengeance, Nobody Likes A Goblin, so many Deadpool collections, Aw Yeah Comics, a Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Omnibus 45:05 - two adult coloring books of wildly polarizing qualities
