aflevering 1: Fashion Herstories in the City artwork

1: Fashion Herstories in the City

In an era of fast fashion, the slow fashion movement asks us to consider “who made my clothes?”. The mass production of cheap clothing abroad means a ‘Made in Ireland’ label is now almost an artefact. Our cities and towns once hosted a wealth of independent stores and boutiques, clothing was made locally and to last. Women's labour is central to the history of manufacturing and trading in Dublin. This tour will visit independent vintage shops in the Liberties and Temple Bar, where we’ll meet their proprietors and learn about their passion for sustainable fashion and hear about the women that inspired their careers. On our walkabout, we'll recall the markets of the past eras: Dandelion and the Iveagh - names familiar to generations of Dubliners. This tour has been conceived by the Irish Label Archive - a passion project gathering the histories of twentieth-century Irish labels and boutiques. Find us on instagram @irishlabelarchive Once premiered, this podcast is available for relisten.
