Unity in Diversity

We read, in Acts 2, tongues of fire descend, the great wind comes, and the disciples receive the Holy Spirit.  At this sound, each one of the gathered crowd heard the disciples speaking in their own language. In John 17:1–11 we overhear Jesus praying. Not preaching. Not teaching the crowds. Not debating opponents … He prays. What makes this prayer remarkable is that it comes just before His arrest, suffering, and crucifixion.  In the shadow of the cross, Jesus does not panic.  In the shadow of the cross Jesus turns to, and connects with, His Father. Not Alone !

Last week a young lady posted a simple online message : “I have hundreds of followers online, but tonight I have never felt more alone.” Within hours, thousands of people responded. Many admitted they felt exactly the same way. Surrounded by technology, connected constantly, yet inwardly isolated. We live in a world full of communication, yet many people still ache with loneliness. And perhaps that is why the words of Jesus in John 14:15-21 are so powerful. The Only Way
