I'm joined by Matthew Brennan aka Two Thangs. Matthew's art is based under the premise of taking two items of pop culture and mashing them together. On top of the fact that he's a great artist and illustrator, Matthew also makes sure that his art is affordable to everyone, while also preserving his own value as a creator. We discuss the financial aspects of being a working artist in today's world. Check out his work here: http://www.twothangs.com/

Episode 62: Jonathan Moore aka Wordsayer

A few weeks ago, we lost a great leader in Jonathan Moore aka Wordsayer of Source of Labor. Like many other teens, Wordsayer gave me opportunities that many other rappers would've balked at, whether it was DJing a show with him, or passing on free new music for me to check out. There are a lot of us who benefitted from his generosity and you can't ever take that away from his legacy. The fact of the matter is that many of us in independent music, culture, who got our start in Seattle hip-hop, owe a great deal to Wordsayer. This interview was one of the first I did as a journalist. It was conducted in February 1998 for Mirror, a Seattle Times teen publication. I was 16. You can definitely hear it in my voice (you can also hear my awesome FOB accent). Wordsayer says a lot of powerful things in this interview and the fact that it's almost 20 years ago is kinda crazy. There's a GoFundMe for his kids that I encourage you to donate to. He's done an immeasurable amount for movement in our community. The least we can do is to make sure that his children are afforded the same opportunities. https://www.gofundme.com/jonathan-moore
